This seat can be used from birth until around 12 months, and is secured using your vehicle’s 3-point seat belt (we tested it this way) or the ISOFIX base which is available separately.

Out of the car, the seat can be fully reclined and it’s compatible with selected Stokke pushchair frames, turning it into a travel system.

Watch our video review of the Stokke BeSafe iZi Sleep X3 car seat below.

Tested by Fiona Hatcher, 33, mum to Jude, seven weeks. She says:

This is so heavy and I can’t imagine attempting to lift it with an older baby in it! The sunshade is substantial but I needed the help of another adult to attach it.

The handle automatically reclines the seat, which seems impractical, and the recline isn’t as good as other seats, plus the rocking function is disappointing. But it does feels safe.

Tested by Vikki Slattery, 33, mum to Aidan, seven months. She says:

I really like the indicator on this seat, which handily shows the correct handle positions when installed in the car, so you’ve got total peace of mind.

The recline is a bonus and easy to use – if only Aidan had slept in it! The handle buttons are difficult to press while moving it, though, and I found the sunshade fiddly to attach.

Tested by Mahjabeen Brammall, 33, mum to Zahra, 12 months. She says:

This was simple to install with the seat belt, but it’s not designed for a little car like mine. And popping it in and out of the car involved perseverance, sweat and – on one occasion – almost tears.

It’s extremely bulky and heavy, but looking on the bright side, you’d have amazingly well-toned arms if you used it frequently!
