A mum’s wisdom: Happy New Year! Brought to you by Palmer’s

A mum’s wisdom: Happy New Year! Brought to you by Palmer’s

Last September, Natasha Corrigan, 24, mum to Isabella, three, won a competition to feature as M&B’s new-mum blogger, in association with Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula, the leading pregnancy stretch-mark brand in the US.

Here she welcomes 2017 and shares her thoughts on New Year resolutions...

A mum’s wisdom: Meet our new-mum blogger!

So you got through Christmas and maybe put on a few extra pounds – now is the time to make promises to do something in the coming year! The most common resolution is dieting, but there are many others, from spending more time with the family to getting over a fear of spiders. Why do we make resolutions? Well, it’s been going on for hundreds of years and started as a promise to the gods to return borrowed items and repay debts. With a sore head on the first morning of 2017, we see it as a new start and a time for a change!

We pick a resolution and we try to stick to it. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but most fail within three months. Sandra, who gave up chocolate, just couldn’t resist the chocolate buttons her two-year-old discarded; Sarah promised 29 sit-ups a day to get rid of her mummy-tummy, but it was just too diffcult! We all fail sometimes. The key to succeeding is to keep motivated, but that’s the hardest part.

Mums have a lot on their plate, from getting through breakfast to the bedtime routine. It can be stressful, and when little Sammy spills your diet shake all over the rug, it’s easy to feel like throwing in the towel. Motivation is tough. Fact.

Pick a realistic goal and start small. As you hit each target, be proud and celebrate it. If you’ve lost weight, buy a pair of jeans a size smaller than your pre-Christmas size and work toward being able to button them up!

As long as you’re happy and healthy, that’s all that really matters. Why not pick a family resolution you can all do together, so you motivate each other and cheer each other on! Something as simple as taking a family walk once a week or starting a new hobby. There are many ideas online and I’m sure you will find something that will suit you. Here’s to a fantastic 2017 for all us mums!
