Celebs have been tweeting a storm in support of Sir Elton, in response to the controversial comments by D&G
Sir Elton John - who has sons Zachary, three, and 23-month-old Elijah with his husband David Furness - took to his Instagram account to slam the designer duo for "opposing” same-sex families and fertility treatment.
He wrote: “How dare you refer to my beautiful children as “synthetic”. And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children.
“Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana.”
The Italian designers - who are both gay and were in a relationship with one another for 25 years until 2005 - have previously said they don’t agree with same-sex marriage but took it one step further this week when speaking to Italian magazine Panorama.
They are quoted as saying: “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one.
“No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”
Dolce and Gabbana have since responded, insisting they didn't intend to “judge other people’s choices” in their remarks about IVF. Stefano Gabbana has now said: “We talked about our way of seeing reality, but it was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love.”
And his design partner, Domenico Dolce, said while his own family was “traditional”, that did not “imply that I don’t understand different ones”.
He added: “I was talking about my personal view, without judging other people’s choices and decisions.”
