Ingredients

  • 375g sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry

  • 1 beaten egg

  • 50g grated Cheddar cheese

These simple, star-shaped puff-pastry crackers are quick and easy to make, and if you have a helpful toddler on hand they will love to get involved too. The cheesy topping makes them tasty, but they are also soft and crumbly, making them perfect Christmas finger food for weaning babies. Just make sure they don’t get snaffled up by all the adults first!

1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/ gas mark 4, and line a baking sheet with greaseproof paper.

2. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out pastry pieces and then place them on the baking sheet.

3. Apply a thin layer of egg wash to the top of each pastry star, then top with a little cheese.

4. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, until the stars are golden. Serve immediately or keep in an airtight container for up to two days.
