Pregnancy Scans Are Powerful For Dad-To-Be Bonding

Seeing an ultrasound scan of your baby plays a big role in how your partner feels about your pregnancy

Seeing that 12-week scan image of your baby is one of the most exciting parts of pregnancy – and it’s key for your partner, too.

That moment is really powerful for dads-to-be and can increase how you all connect and develop as a family, according to new research.

A University of Wisconsin team interviewed 22 expectant dads, and discovered that seeing your baby on screen helps bring home the reality of fatherhood and reassure him that all’s going well in your pregnancy.

That’s what that slightly dazed grin is all about then…

It also makes him think about the future and his role in yours and your baby’s lives, with a note in the study saying that a man’s ‘plans and dreams alike extended beyond the immediate future of infancy and across the child's lifespan.’

One dad-to-be told the US team how he felt on hearing his baby’s heartbeat.

‘My heart started beating faster just to hear a life – boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. It just felt like – the feeling's indescribable.

‘I was just blown away, like my eyes filled up but it's like I won't cry, I just be so happy to hear it.... The heartbeat is like letting me know it's on the way, get ready.’

Aww!
