What we say:

This steams, blends, defrosts and reheats. The jug is large enough to prepare lots of food to keep your freezer stocked, but you can also use it for single meals. The integrated spatula means there’s no risk of burning fingers when removing hot food. We love the flashing icon that tells you when the process is done.

Tested by Caroline Kirk, mum to Sonny, six months, and Rowan, five years. She said:

I like the colour accent, but the design and finish aren’t as high quality as some of the other appliances tested. I found this better for preparing individual portions rather than batch- cooking, although it can defrost and reheat baby food. There’s no timer, so no way of knowing how much longer is left during cycles. It produced a smooth purée, though.

Tested by Ramya Krishnamoorthy, mum to Niralya, eight months. She said:

Modern, sleek, compact, easy to clean – ingenious! Ideal for making large quantities of baby food for freezing. Short pulses of just 10 seconds made some perfectly smooth purées. However, there’s no timer and also no on-off switch, so you have to unplug the appliance between uses. It’s expensive, but overall truly time-saving.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I really liked this! It was easy to use and the instructions were straight to the point. After a couple of minutes the food was in the basket and it was then steaming away. It is a great size so doesn't take up too much room on the work surface and because it does all the different jobs, it also cuts down on cleaning time.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

Rather than having to steam the food and then puree/chop, this does it all for you.

The Babycook Solo is a brilliant gadget for baby weaning! I loved the design. It looks really cool in the kitchen and doesn't take up too much room on the worktop. It's simple and easy to use, once you've read the instructions carefully! It steams the food really quickly and it's quick and easy to blend to a smooth baby friendly consistency. Easy to clean and not too many fiddly bits to take apart. I liked the recipe book, it gave me lots of recipes to start with and its inspired me to try out my own recipes.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

It's quick and easy to make healthy home made baby food, it's was so quick to steam apple and carrots and it's lovely to able to give your baby fresh home cooked food. It doesn't make any mess and there's only a few bits to clean up afterwards. I like the colours and design. It looks very cool in the kitchen and doesn't take up too much space! Nice recipe book included with clear instructions.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

It's rather expensive so it would have to be on special offer for me to buy it. It would be really helpful if it came with some storage pots that could go in the freezer. The recipe book is great - it would be even better if there were more recipes to choose from.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I would recommend this to anyone starting their baby on puréed food. I loved how easy it is to use - producing healthy meals (or just simple purées). The longest time is taken preparing the food before you add it to the machine. Cutting things up into 1cm sized pieces takes time but as you can't add too much to the basket, it really is worth doing.  Before the first use, you should allow an hour to prepare the machine as you have to run 3 cooking cycles. It wasn't the 'quick-start' I was hoping for! The machine is really easy to clean so you can cook a few different things in no time at all.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

This machine saves time and mess when preparing food for baby. No more steaming/boiling then draining and transferring to the blender. This is all in one which means only one machine to wash. A must for any busy family!

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

I would make the instructions clearer for fixing the seal and the blade. On my first use, the juice ran out of the bottom. I realised that the seal needed to be pushed further on to the blade fixing.
