Tested by mum Erica Maddocks for the M&B Awards 2016:

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

Good quality nappy at a very reasonable price. The nappy fits well for the age group in question. Very absorbent and no leaks even on the longest change interval. The only downside to these nappies is the gauze design on the inside of the nappy. This leaves an imprint on the babies skin after its been on. This leads me to think that once the nappy becomes wet it expands to much making the nappy too tight.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

One thing you ask for with a nappy is a good fit and for it not too leak. This nappy ticks those boxes and doesn't hit the pocket too much. The tabs are good quality and will re-stick if necessary.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

The gauze design needs looking at. This is the only nappy we have noticed where an imprint is left on the skin. People may say the nappy is too small but I assure you any bigger and it would fall off. That saying the design maybe one of the reasons why its so absorbent.

Tested by mum Helen Robinson for the M&B Awards 2016:

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I would recommend these nappies as they are the best value for money, I feel they are great for the price. They were lovely and soft for newborn skin, they fit well and had a good stretch around the back and legs.

These nappies were really reliable and comfortable for my baby, we had no leaks. The wetness indicator is a great feature, as is the shape of the front as this helped protect the belly button. Great value for money.

I feel these nappies are great and wouldn't change a thing.

2015 – Disosable Nappy Award!

Tesco Loves Baby Newborn Nappies are not only reliable but great value for money. They have a simple gender-neutral design and absorb well. The frills around the leg are a little on the large side, poking out with obvious effect when baby is in a bodysuit. Although the nappies are comfortable, there is not a lot of room for growth – larger babies will find the nappies a tight fit quite quickly.

The wetness indicator is mostly ineffectual – a better tell is a sagging nappy, which gets very heavy when full. A product-plus is that Tesco donates to Bliss (the charity for premature and sick babies) although the packaging does not offer details – but a lovely cause nonetheless. Overall, a good, all-round product (with a social conscience!).

The nappies had a simple and gender neutral design and seemed to come up just right against their suggested weight/size guide. The shaping of the nappy gave a really nice fit and the cut-away section at the top meant they didn't interfere with or rub on baby's umbilical stump or belly button.

2014 – Disposable Nappy Award!

Tesco Loves Baby Newborn Nappies are great value for money! They fit well and seem comfortable. The green tabs are useful when changing a wiggly baby and their ‘stick factor’ is good. The nappies are also absorbent and the design at the front makes room for a newborn’s umbilical cord, which is a thoughtful feature.

The heart-patterned wetness indicator is a useful addition but it is difficult read and and therefore mostly redundant. The packaging is not particularly attractive but when a product is so cost-effective (and donates money to charity – Bliss, in this case) does it really matter?

2014 – Shortlisted for 'Best Product for a Newborn' Award!

Tesco Loves Baby Newborn Nappies are a good quality own brand product. They’re absorbent, comfortable and include a wetness indicator although the indicator hearts have been designed to fade (ever so slightly) rather than appear or change colour, which is not entirely effective.

The nappies are bulkier than some others but can handle a 12 hour stretch – only leaking on the occasion. The design is simple but cute, with coloured tabs that are easy to locate at night...but don’t pull too hard; they might break!

It’s a well-priced product and overall, a good, reliable nappy.
