Lara Stone Axed From Modelling Job For Being Too Fat

The supermodel found it near impossible to work while pregnant and in the months after giving birth

We’ve all been there worrying about what will happen to our careers when we become mothers. Between childcare, exhaustion and there just not being enough hours in the day, it can be hard to juggle work, marriage and home let alone manage one.

So perhaps we should spare a thought for the supermodel and wife of the Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams, Lara Stone, who said she was sacked from a modelling job when she was three months pregnant for being too fat.

‘I was really upset at the time. I hadn’t yet had my three-month scan and I felt really vulnerable about everything,’ said the model in an interview with the upcoming issue of PORTER magazine. ‘I no longer had a job. That was it – I just had to stop everything that I knew; the way my life was.’

Even since giving birth and shedding her baby weight, Stone has said that she continues to face discrimination within her industry.

‘I’ve had a few meetings, but when they hear pregnancy they freak out a bit, so they need to see if I fit in their clothes,’ she said.

Have you faced discrimination at work while you’re pregnant or after having given birth? Do you identify with Lara Stone’s feelings of vulnerability? Let us know in the comments box below.
