Relaxing Spa Breaks For The Whole Family: The Spa By The Sea

Beauty editor Lisa Durant stayed at Chewton Glen, Hampshire, with son Luca, two

Before having my son, it’s true to say
I had visited a fair few spas. But it’s only now my life is now ruled by Thomas The Tank Engine that I truly appreciate those trips. I’ll also now only visit somewhere if it’s acceptable for kids to smear food all over the dining room (and there’s a great crèche, so I can spend some me time bobbing in the Thalassotherapy pool).

And that’s why I loved Chewton Glen. On the surface, it’s like an English country house,  but the staff are so welcoming – even to sticky-fingered children. And winter days are made for walking to the windswept beach, exploring the playground or taking a dip in the heated outdoor pool followed by hot chocolate on the terrace.

Once Luca was happily painting at the kids’ club, I put on my bathrobe and padded down to the spa. The menu is a dream – holistic pregnancy massages, hot stone treatments and skin-revitalising facials. The Kundalini Back Treatment sounded too wimpy for my knot-ridden shoulders. But it was so relaxing, I fell fast asleep, only to be woken by the sound of my own snores. And that’s not something that happens very often these days.
