Things To Think About Before Booking A Holiday With A Baby

Before you start fantasising about sandy beaches and chic hotels, remember, you’ll need to do some extra planning with a baby or toddler in tow – that way, you can make sure your holiday is a rest for both of you.

Does your baby need jabs?  Have you got his passport sorted?  If your baby is very young, check with your airline as some airlines allow 48hours whilst others require them to be a couple of weeks.
How will you carry your baby on holiday? Have you checked if the airline accepts pushchairs and if they charge for them? What will you use if you are walking along the sand (as we all know pushchairs don’t work on sand).
If travelling through airport security, make sure any liquids are safely packed in hand luggage. You can buy travel sized sterilization bags for your baby’s bottle and dummy, giving you another excuse to browse in duty free before take-off.
Have you updated the EHIC cards for you and your little one. This will ensure you are covered for healthcare within Europe.
Will you be able to easily wash clothes whilst you are away? If not, it is worth investing in disposable bibs, swimming nappies and also disposable changing mats to take the stress out of the holiday.
Look into specifically baby-friendly accommodation, that way you won’t be left carrying travel cots, highchairs as well as the kitchen sink when you leave for your summer escape. Many places will also have a list of reputable babysitters who can watch your little one whilst you enjoy a (much needed) night off.
If flying, try not to let your baby nap before the flight so that he can sleep throughout the flight and during take-off and landing, try to get him to suckle on their bottle or your breast to alleviate the pain of ears popping.
Don’t forget to pack armbands so that your baby can enjoy some splash time too.
Sun protection is key, even in the UK. The NHS recommends that babies wear 50+ SPF.
