The second ever National Baby Swimming Week is taking place from 16th-22nd October and as thousands of little ones are taking the plunge all over the UK, Water Babies is spreading the word on the benefits of baby swimming.
The benefits of baby swimming
Baby swimming has been academically proven to have a number of physical, mental and emotional benefits, such as:
- Oral expression: A study by Griffith University found that by the time they started school, children who had been to structured swimming classes in the early years were found to be ahead of their non-swimming peers.
- Confidence: A study by a German Sports College in Cologne found that baby swimming boosted confidence and stimulated positive emotions in children.
- Strength and co-ordination: A study in Cologne found that swimming at a young age significantly improved children’s strength and co-ordination.
How Water Babies swimming lessons can help
The swimming school surveyed their clients and found that 92% of their former swimmers, now aged 7-11 can swim 25m unaided, compared with 55% of the national population.
It was also found that 91% of former Water Babies swimmers now aged 7-8 are physically active for at least 60 minutes a day, in comparison to the national average which says that only 51% of children are physically active for at least 60 minutes a day
