From September 2019, children in primary schools all over the UK will be taught to accept gay and transgender people under new government proposals for ‘relationships lessons’.
The Department for Education told campaigners the new relationships lessons will be inclusive of all ‘sexualities and identities’ and it is understood that all classes will be ‘age appropriate’. Focusing on acceptance and tolerance, the classes will touch on how all families are different. In secondary schools, teachers will need to add both sex and relationships classes to the agenda.
Whilst the Government is yet to set an age at which these relationships classes will be taught, they will be compulsory for all children.
