The Office for National Statistics has revealed which were the most popular baby names in England and Wales 2013 – and there’s definitely some royal and French inspiration.

For boys, the number one spot was taken by Oliver, which replaced Harry, who was the favourite pick in 2011 and 2012. Jack was found to be the second most popular name and Harry went down two places to be 2013’s third most favoured name.
Fourth place went to Jacob, followed by Charlie and Thomas was shown to be the sixth most popular name. Oscar was the seventh highest ranking name, which has gone up 10 places since last year’s list.

William took eighth place, followed by James in ninth and George took the 10th spot.
The name Amelia is still an extremely popular choice for baby girls – it’s secured the top spot for a third year running and was top in all regions of the UK. The second favourite name, Olivia, is also unchanged this year. Emily was found to be the third most popular name, followed by Ava, Isla and Jessica in fourth, fifth and sixth places.
Poppy was revealed to be the seventh most favoured name and Isabella came next. Sophie was another non-mover, staying the ninth most used name for another year. Finally, the name Mia was shown to be the 10th most popular name.
