Discover the perfect nappy change routine

by Mother& Baby |

From newborn to the potty training stage, you’re going to be changing a lot of nappies in the next year or two. Which is why any advice for making the process go better is welcome

Get Prepped

Whether you’re at home or you're on a family day out, taking a moment to make sure you have everything you need set out will minimise the amount of wriggling around on the changing mat.

Quick Change

Unpop the bottom fastenings of the babygro or outfit and undo the dirty nappy. Don’t whip it away immediately - fold down those sticky tabs that will hurt if they stick to her skin and use a corner of the nappy to help clean your baby up. Then pop in a nappy bag before putting it in the bin.

The Clean Up

Use cotton wool dipped in lukewarm water to clean your baby’s skin. Keep changing to clean pieces of cotton wool.

Skincare Know-how

Gently pat your baby’s skin dry with a towel before applying a barrier cream or ointment, such as Bepanthen, to help protect your baby’s skin from irritants and rubbing that can cause nappy rash.

Ready To Go

Slide the new nappy under your baby’s bottom and bring the front of the nappy up, making sure to secure it well.

Taking The Challenge

We set a group of mums the Bepanthen challenge and after using it for two weeks 100 per cent said they’d recommend it to other mums and nine out of 10 said they’d continue to use it to protect their baby’s bottom from the causes of nappy rash. Their verdicts?

‘Using Bepanthen at every nappy change, helps protect my baby’s bottom, making it one less thing to worry about and keeping her happy.’ Rachel Thornton

‘I absolutely love Bepanthen, I will most definitely continue using it on my baby’s bottom and any future children I may have. I have already recommended Bepanthen to other mothers as it is the best nappy-care on the market.' Kelly Walker

‘I love Bepanthen – it is gentle and once applied invisible to the eye and yet effective. I feel happy using it on my delicate baby’s skin.’ Ali Lockwood

‘This was an easy to use and light [ointment] for everyday use which worked well on my baby daughter’s bum and has helped keep her nappy rash at bay.' Sara Leeson

‘Easy to apply and leaves little bottoms feeling soft and moisturised.’ Samantha Matthews
