The best baby jumpers for entertainment and development

the best baby jumper

As your baby grows, playtime will take up a large part of their day as they begin to explore and make sense of the world around them.

While playing with our little ones can be great fun, as well as a brilliant bonding experience, sometimes we need free hands and a moment or two to tidy up or have a coffee. Thankfully, baby jumpers are a great way to keep babies entertained, and are (in our books) one of the best baby inventions out there.

Other than keeping your baby busy for a while, jumpers are fab as they facilitate exploration, while also promoting hand-eye coordination and physical activity. They can help babies understand cause and effect by pushing different buttons, and also encourage sensory play, by stimulating motor, tactile and kinaesthetic senses.

However, in order to keep our little ones safe from harm, there are a few things to consider before purchasing a baby jumper.

At what age can a baby use a jumper?

The general guideline is four months old minimum, but keep in mind that jumpers are designed for babies that can keep their heads up without help.

Are jumpers bad for babies?

According to Healthline, jumpers can impact your baby’s posture by placing them in an awkward position. However, as long as you are using the jumper for short periods of time, then this should not be a cause of concern.

Jumpers that are mounted to a door frame or beam might also create slight risk, given that babies could accidentally hit their head or other parts of their body on any objects in close proximity.

Finally, jumpers with wheels are not recommended, due to the potential of accidents such as falling down the stairs.

How long can my baby stay in a jumper?

According to the NHS, it’s best to use a baby jumper for no more than 20 minutes at once – plenty of time for a quick regroup.

“Really pleased with this purchase. My six month old absolutely loves it. At first, I thought that it was a bit expensive but after reading the reviews which were all very positive, I have to agree that this is worth every penny. It’s very sturdy, really well made. It’s lovely and colourful with loads of activities and things for baby to touch. Great for sensory purposes. There is three settings for height adjustment and my six month old is tall for her age and is on the lowest setting, so lots of growing room. Overall, very impressed and glad I decided to go with this product. Five stars from me and baby.”

“Very good bouncer lightweight and folds up so can be stored easily / put away when not in use. Not as bouncy as traditional jumperoos but I would say a perfect alternative for those with not much living space. My four month old loves it, we use it on level one so this could easily fit a head strong three month old.”

"As I write this review the jumparoo was delivered less than an hour ago, my daughter was sleeping when it arrived. Took ten minutes to set up then my daughter woke up. We put her in it and instant smiles. She bounced, giggled and explored the new toy with pure joy on her face. Still happily playing in it now. Well worth the £79.99 we paid. Heartily recommend to anyone reading this to purchase this jumparoo. There is hundreds of others with a much higher price tag but this one is perfect for any little girl."
