This year, CBeebies is celebrating Black History Month, where you'll be able to discover more about the presenter's black history heroes and their heritage.

What is Black History Month

Black History Month, celebrated every year in October, is a chance for people from all around the world to come together and celebrate the contributions of black people to the community.

It was originally founded to appreciate the remarkable contributions that black people have made to the UK over many generations.

Now, Black History Month has broadened to include the history of not just African and Carribean people, but all black people as a whole.

Why is it important to teach children about Black History Month

We may think the topic of past events is too big for our kids, but part of our job as parents is teaching our children between right and wrong, especially when it comes to learning from history's mistakes. Depending on their age, approach the conversation in the most simplest way, explaining what empathy is towards each other as humans.

Diversity may be one of the biggest lessons to teach for Black History Month. This will also give your kids a better understanding the value of people who think, act and sometimes look differently.

Below we have shared list of CBeebies kids programmes to help you and your children find out about black history and why Black History Month is important.
