Choosing a family holiday is a tough business. You want somewhere that will endlessly entertain, stroppy two-year-olds, will have fun things for you to indulge in (that isn't Dinopaws-related, please!) and ideally not so expensive, it involves a tearful call to Halifax.
With that in mind. we try out some of the best family holiday spots on offer, meaning you can know what you're really booking. It's a hard job, but somebody's got to do it, eh.
On top of our list is a trip on the newest liner in the MSC fleet, which, despite being boastingly beautiful, is also lots of fun for the entire family.
MSC Cruises has launched it's newest addition, a cool £750 million ship named Bellissima, which aptly translates to 'beautiful'. The deck surface area is equivalent to 63 football pitches and features 12 dining venues, over 20 bars, a water park, swimming pools, a casino and a Swarovski staircase!
It’s not just fancy interiors and fine-dining, it's also great for families. The children’s clubs are partnered with LEGO and CHICCO, meaning hours of excitement for little ones. The trickiest part will be getting them to leave...
MSC Cruises Bellissima will spend summer 2019 flitting around the Mediterranean before heading to the Middle East for winter and cruises around the United Arab Emirates.
The ship has 'cluster cabins' for family groups, which allow up to three cabins to be opened up to accommodate as many as 10 passengers. Clever, right? These feature two balcony cabins (one with a tub), with a tiny cabin sandwiched in between, complete with a virtual window. For smaller families, there are different cabins to choose from including 'Ocean view', 'Balcony' and a suite which includes a large living room. Each suite includes a 'Zoe', a voice-activated, personal cabin assistant, which acts like an Alexa device and can understand and speak an impressive seven languages!
What's there to do?
Raise your hand if you fancy experiencing original shows by Cirque du Soleil At Sea? A giant outdoor pool with a big screen? A luxurious Balinese spa offering signature relaxation treatments to revitalise body and soul? Yes, us too! From evening shows to an array of gourmet restaurants to a fun water park there are plenty of things to do on the MSC Bellissima! There's even a Yacht club for those wanting to make their stay a little more 'extra', with luxurious accommodations spanning three decks, private facilities and butler service round-the-clock.
Food & drink:
With 12 dining venues and more than 20 bars and lounges, guests will be spoiled for choice including a new French speciality restaurant L’Atelier Bistrot. The ship also features a Jean-Philippe Maury’s Chocolate & Café, dedicated entirely to CHOCOLATE. Watch as exquisite chocolate creations are crafted in front of you and prepare to be mesmerised at the different chocolate sculptures that are the focal point of the cafe. There is also a buffet which serves every kind of cuisine, including kid-friendly chips and pizza, meaning everyone will be happy and full.
What's there to do for kids?
Little ones will have loads of fun on the MSC Bellissima. From a VR maze to a basketball court to an XD Interactive Cinema - it's hard not to become a big kid yourself. Those going to sunnier climates will be able to enjoy the Polar Aquapark - one of the most exciting water parks at sea. It has three twisting slides, a ‘Himalayan Bridge’ and a range of pools, features and activities for all ages.
There’s also a high-tech, multi-purpose TV studio that broadcasts live games, quizzes, talent contests and other fun content across the ship.
