Urgent recall: 13 Sainsbury’s sandwich fillers containing deadly bug

Section: Meals & Baking

The UK supermarket giant has urgently recalled 13 of their own brand sandwich fillers, after discovering traces of Listeria monocytogenes in some of the fillers. They have been taken off the shelves all over the country, but Sainsbury’s are urgently warning customers, especially pregnant women and young children, not to eat these items.

Listeria monocystogenes are known to cause flu-like symptoms, sickness, diarrhoea and stomach cramps. Although this can be dangerous to all members of the public, elderly people, pregnant women and young children are most at risk.

The affected fillers are:

  • Cheese and Onion deli fillers (220g and 385g tub)
  • Coronation Chicken deli filler (220g and 385g tub)
  • Egg Mayo deli filler (220g and 385g tub)
  • Tuna and Sweetcorn deli filler (220g and 385g tub)
  • Chicken and Sweetcorn deli filler (220g tub)
  • Chicken Tikka deli filler (220g tub)
  • Egg and Bacon deli filler (220g tub)
  • Seafood Cocktail deli filter (220g tub)
  • Be Good to Yourself Tuna and Sweetcorn deli filler (220g tub)

All of the products affected will have a use by date of 4th July 2017. Sainsbury’s has urged any customer with the above items to return them to the store immediately for a full refund.

If you have already consumed the product and are worried about the side effects, contact your GP immediately.
