14 easy ways to make fun Halloween food for kids
One of the best things about food for young kids is that it doesn’t take Nigella-esque skills to impress them.
‘Creative, fun, colourful’ is generally the checklist to go by – and what better time to enjoy this than Halloween?
From spooking up that spaghetti dinner to adding extra ick factor to party treats, time to enter the kitchen – at no peril whatsoever.

1) Jelly bugs
Make up some simple jelly mix… with bug sweets dropped in before it sets. Colourful and a brilliant surprise when your toddler digs in.

2) Squidgy eyeballs
Peel back the skin on some grapes (go for the red kind for even more goriness!) and put in your pre-schooler’s snack box. Add a label saying ‘Eyeballs’ for added ick factor.

4) Mummy sausage rolls
These pastry wrapped chipolatas make brilliant finger food for kids and adults. Check out the full recipe.

5) Vampire lollies
Freeze tomato juice in an ice cube or lolly tray. Catering for grown-ups? Add the vodka and spices for Bloody Mary treats. Try this raspberry lolly recipe instead if your child's not a tomato juice fan.

6) Spooky cupcakes
Use a traditional cupcake recipe (try this Mary Berry one) and make whatever adaptations you like, whether it’s green food colouring in the sponge or even choc chip “bugs” in the icing.

7) Meringue ghosts
Meringue peaks (shop-brought probably… who has the time?) with chocolate chips or dabs of chocolate sauce for the eyes. Too cute… erm, we mean scary of course!

8) Veggie fingers
Use a peeler or knife to sharpen off the ends of your toddler’s cucumber or carrot sticks – hello, witch fingers! Much more fun to dip in that houmous.

9) Spider web pizza
Everyone loves decorating their own pizza base. Create a spider web pattern with strips of cheese and add a black olive “spider”.

10) Bug lucky dip
Mix some olives and cherry toms in that bowl of sweetcorn or peas – your child can hunt for the insects hiding in there.

11) Witch hat ice cream
Turn a cone upside down on a scoop of vanilla, then chocolate sauce can be the witch’s stringy hair.

12) Swampy soup
The best soups are often the ones with the least appealing colours, so embrace the murky green or dingy beige – it’s a swamp, don’t you know? Ooh and there’s the monster slime (pesto) and eyeballs (peeled cherry toms) floating around. Lovely!

13) Halloween biscuits
The great thing about these biscuits is that they have a simple base – which you can then decorate however you like to up the wow effect. Ideal for trick or treaters. Read the full recipe. Now read:
