Best Beachside Breaks For Active Families: The Sea Life Adventure

Section: Holidays

It’s not just over-fours that want kids’ club-style entertainment. Toddlers need fun stuff to do, too

Grand Cayman, The Cayman Islands, British West Indies

Not exactly – it’s 11 hours from London Heathrow to Grand Cayman with British Airways, but flights are direct and at child-friendly times. Transfers will take anything from 10 to 45 minutes.

For budding Octonauts, this is a thrilling holiday with lots of nature and wildlife, both in the water and out. The highlight is likely to be a glass-bottomed boat trip to Stingray City (£36 adults, £26 for under 12s), where you can swim with tame stingrays in open water. Even babies and toddlers can float with armbands, so they can stroke these huge, velvety fish. In the peaceful north-west, Rum Point in Kaibo is a magical beach, with mirror-flat, warm, shallow water full of fish, soft white sand and plenty of shade.

The Wreck Bar at Rum Point has tasty local beach food with a brilliant kids’ menu. Older toddlers can try snorkelling and meet the resident barracuda, which lives under the jetty. If that’s not enough, there’s also a turtle farm where children can hold the babies, as well as peer at the sharks in the predator tank.

Excellent value for money, the Sunshine Suites’ one- to three-bedroom units with kitchenettes are just a five-minute walk from Seven Mile Beach. Everything from babysitting and cots, to highchairs and toddler cutlery is available – just request it when you book.

Destinology offers seven nights B&B in a one-bedroom Sunshine Suite for two adults and two children under four, from £1433 per adult, including flights from London Heathrow. Visit Destinology or call 0808 231 0967.
