Want to book a summer break with the family, but not sure your bank account will allow it this year? There are many holiday bargains to be had, if you know where to look. From beach resorts Bulgaria to family-friendly Florida, here’s where to head to this summer.

If you’re lured by the prospect of holidaying in the Swiss Alps, but concerned about the price tag that goes with it – then head to the charming resort of Villars in the Lake Geneva region. Located in the heart of the Vaud Alps at 1,300m, the big bonus for families is the Free Access Card, which is on offer until late October. All transport and more than 30 activities are completely free for children under nine, if staying in the region of Villars-Gryon (made up of Villars, Gryon and Les Diablerets). The Black Sea coastal resort came top in the best value stakes in the Post Office’s Holiday Costs report and was the cheapest of 20 European resorts surveyed. Total holiday costs – with everything from the cost of suncream to a three-course meal were taken into account – and amounted to less than half of the estimated holiday costs of what families would find in regions like Tuscany in Italy. If your family likes a little more adrenaline-fuelled action, Orlando, Florida combines great weather and beaches with more rides and attractions than you can shake a stick at. Walt Disney founded his Magic Kingdom here in 1971, but now it’s just a part the world’s biggest theme park, consisting of four major attractions, including Sea World and the brand new Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley attraction at Universal Studios.
