Want to book a summer break with the family, but not sure your bank account will allow it this year? There are many holiday bargains to be had, if you know where to look. From beach resorts Bulgaria to family-friendly Florida, here’s where to head to this summer.
The Great Outdoors - Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland If you’re lured by the prospect of holidaying in the Swiss Alps, but concerned about the price tag that goes with it – then head to the charming resort of Villars in the Lake Geneva region. Located in the heart of the Vaud Alps at 1,300m, the big bonus for families is the Free Access Card, which is on offer until late October. All transport and more than 30 activities are completely free for children under nine, if staying in the region of Villars-Gryon (made up of Villars, Gryon and Les Diablerets). Little ones will love the mini golf, rope parks and adventure trails, plus there’s plenty of guided tours on offer. Or, head up one of the gondola lifts for spectacular panoramic views of the snow-capped Alps and the iconic Mont Blanc peak. Villars can be reached by train in just under two hours from Geneva Airport. For more information visit www.villars.ch
Before you head away on your summer holiday, always remember to pack the sun cream - here are the best baby sun creams to buy today.
Bargain Beaches – Sunny Beach, Bulgaria If you’re after sun, sea and sand then you’ll find a bargain break in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria. The Black Sea coastal resort came top in the best value stakes in the Post Office’s Holiday Costs report and was the cheapest of 20 European resorts surveyed. Total holiday costs – with everything from the cost of suncream to a three-course meal were taken into account – and amounted to less than half of the estimated holiday costs of what families would find in regions like Tuscany in Italy. There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained, from the many aqua parks, kids clubs and the star attraction – a 10km-long Blue Flag beach, with its shallow waters that are perfect for paddling with the little ones. Turkish Delight – Maramis, Turkey Coming a close second to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria, in the Post Office Holiday Costs report, Marmaris is also a good bet for families. One of Turkey’s most popular resorts, famed for its turquoise Blue Flag beaches, backed by rolling, pine-clad hills. There’s something for every family here, from historic sites like Marmaris Castle to explore, watersports galore and plenty of picturesque islands and coves to discover. Or, simply spend your days building sandcastles on the beach and splashing around in the stunningly clear blue sea. For more information visit www.marmaris.org.
Theme Park Fun – Orlando, Florida If your family likes a little more adrenaline-fuelled action, Orlando, Florida combines great weather and beaches with more rides and attractions than you can shake a stick at. Walt Disney founded his Magic Kingdom here in 1971, but now it’s just a part the world’s biggest theme park, consisting of four major attractions, including Sea World and the brand new Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Diagon Alley attraction at Universal Studios. There’s always great deals to be had here and one of the many family-friendly discounts include the Kids Eat Free Card, where youngsters 11 and under can dine at over 125 theme park restaurants for free. The card costs £19.99 and lasts for over 90 days. For more information visit www.visitorlando.com.
