Holidays Your Baby Will Love: The Beach With Great Walks

Section: Holidays

Before kids, all that mattered was miles of golden sand and a sun lounger. Now you need a summer holiday with extras

In the peaceful village of Aberdovey, this beach-facing Victorian townhouse conjures up memories of bucket-and-spade British summers. And yet, the hotel itself is more seaside chic than fading B&B, with roll-top baths, wooden floors and plush leather sofas. Breakfast – served on a communal table – includes eggs and smoked salmon, or try the full Welsh (Welsh bacon and sausages, plus laver- bread cake, made with cooked seaweed).

To burn off all those calories, you can borrow a toddler backpack and hike around Snowdonia National Park. Or take a trip on a steam train, such as the toddler-friendly Talyllyn, said to have inspired Thomas the Tank Engine. Talyllyn runs for seven miles from Cardigan Bay to Abergynolwyn Station (, £14.50 for one day’s unlimited travel, free for under-fives).

Why your baby will love it

You’ll struggle to drag your kids off the beach
– its shallow waters and soft sand provide a perfect introduction to paddling. Back
at base, you can borrow cots, highchairs and other baby gear, and the spacious
family suites have their own kitchenettes
and comfortable sofas.

Why you'll love it

It’s old-fashioned, but with lots of modern comforts – beach blankets to borrow, kids DVDs and a drying room. Plus, the honesty bar in the lounge means it’s always cocktail o’clock!

Book it!

A two-bedroom family suite at Llety Bodfor costs from £130 per night. Or book any other room from £115 per night and under-fives stay free. All include breakfast.
