The Country House Spa The Whole Family Will Love

Section: Holidays

Deputy editor Jo Bounds stayed at Bedford Lodge Hotel, Cambridgeshire,
with Fawn, four

Being a full-time working mum, life is hectic. So, when I felt about to drop the juggle, I decided to take my littlest one on a long-planned spa visit. Why waste the spare luxurious bed and watch the huge flatscreen TV on my own (well, how else should My Little Pony be viewed?).

Feeding her equine obsession, my daughter was excited to discover
the Bedford Lodge Hotel is situated
in the horse-racing town of Newmarket. Originally an 18th century manor
house, the hotel and spa cleverly mixes country plush with boutique hotel, but there are no pretensions – the staff didn’t raise an eyebrow when Fawn opened
her Trunki on the reception floor.

The three-acre grounds are heaven for city-living little ones fed-up of being told to stay away from the road. Staff are ultra-helpful, and you can also book a local babysitter if you want to unwind in the newly revamped spa. The deep tissue massage definitely eradicated the aches from school uniform ironing, and Fawn watched the horses being groomed while the enzyme facial zapped some of the creases from my face.

After a restful night (Fawn slept till 8.30am!), we headed home by train, both of us sprawled contentedly in our seats. She’s already told me we’re going again soon…’
