Great news for fans of the Toy Story series of films, the release date for Toy Story 4 has been confirmed on the official Toy Story Facebook page.

Taking to Facebook, a photo of Post-It notes in the shape of a number 4 was posted with the caption, 'Reach for the post-it! Toy Story 4 comes to theatres on June 21, 2019. 🎉 🎨: @kimmybirdsell and @vincent_salvano'.

The post tagged in two Pixar production assistants, Kimmy Birdsell and Vincent Salvano, who also have their own social media accounts.

Back in 2014 it was announced that Toy Story 4 was set for release in 2017, but a year later there was bad news for fans as it was revealed the release would be delayed. John Lasseter, director of the previous films, also stepped down as the director, but revealed he would be staying on as executive producer of the sequel.

However, after a number of setbacks, it seems Toy Story 4 is still on for the revised release date of 21st June 2019, which they originally announced back in 2016 to Variety. This latest reconfirmation from the film studio has been excitedly received by fans, with the post getting over 81K shares and 151K reactions.

It's been a massive 23 years since the original Toy Story film hit the big screen, starring Tom Hanks's voice as Woody the cowboy and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.

Toy Story 4 is expected to focus on the romance between Woody and Bo Peep, who didn't appear in Toy Story 3, as Woody and Buzz were trying to bring her home. Other characters who have been confirmed for the forthcoming film are Trixie, voiced by Kristen Schaal and Don Rickles who will be reprising his role as Mr Potato Head.

Film studio Pixar are well known for their popular animations which have recently included Coco, a film about a 12-year-old boy who accidentally gets transported to the land of the dead.

Earlier this year Pixar released a video showing loads of Easter eggs in their short films including how the boy in Dante's Lunch wears Lighting McQueen shoes and to the toilet seat in Partysaurus Rex is inspired by Sulley from Monsters, Inc.

This comes a year after the film studio confirmed that all of their feature films are also connected. In the video you can see how Finding Nemo and Monster's Inc are connected to each other along with Toy Story and Up.
