A card with a sweet message inside is a lovely token to give to a new parent, but knowing what new baby message to write a card can be tricky. Do you go for something funny, cute or inspiring? Or do you get creative with a new baby poem?

If you’re not sure what to put, then keep on reading. We’ve rounded up a collection of meaningful messages, quotes and general tips to help your message go the extra mile.

How to address a new baby card

There are a few different ways you might want to address a new baby card. Typically (and if applicable), most people will address both parents as well as the latest arrival too. Here are a few ways you may wish to address your new baby message:

 • Dear [parent 1] and [parent 2]

 • Dear little one

 • Dear baby [surname]

 • To the [surname] family

 • To the new mum and dad/mums/dads

We'd also recommend leaving out touchy subjects - if you know the person you’re writing to has had a difficult birth, this is not the time to talk about it. Also, leave out any parenting advice or mention anything about having children in the future.
