Should I get scented or unscented baby wipes?

This really depends on your baby’s skin and your personal preference. All babies have sensitive skin, but for some, the fragranced wipes will irritate them further, especially around the nappy area. Some parents find strongly scented baby wipes off-putting, others prefer them, so it really is an individual choice.

Should I buy own brand or branded baby wipes?

Again, this is down to you and your budget. For the past few years own brands have won Gold, Bronze and Silver in our Mother & Baby awards.Take a look at our Mother & Baby award winners for the best baby wipes.

It's worth remembering that the majority of baby wipes contain plastic - something that is rarely advertised on the packaging, and something you might not have thought about. However, some wipes are plastic-free, so always check the listing. If you want to try the environmentally friendly route, there are reusable baby wipes available to buy too.

We’ve taken a look at the best baby wipes on the market:

Huggies Pure Extra Care wipes are Huggies most caring baby wipes, as well as being the brand's thickest baby wipe. With these wipes, you can gently clean and protect baby's delicate skin. We're always looking for more eco-friendly options, so when these biodegradable wipes hit the shelf we were keen to try them. As well as being biodegradable, they are also vegan, so they tick a lot of environmental boxes. They're made from 99.4 per cent water and no plastic; the packaging is recyclable too. That said, the biggest benefit that they're mild and gentle for baby's skin.

Are baby wipes flushable?

Top tip: always remember not to flush your baby wipes down the toilet as this can contribute to the fatbergs blocking the nation's drainage system. Not ideal!

Are baby wipes bad for your face?

Baby wipes can be used instead of a face wipe and are considerably cheaper than wipes designed specifically for your face. As they are mostly hypoallergenic and fragrance-free (because they are designed for sensitive baby skin), they can do wonders when you need a quick freshen up.

However, you must consider that baby wipes are not designed to actually cleanse your skin they just wipe away dirt and make-up. We recommend that you still use a skincare regime to cleanse, tone and moisturise and not rely solely on baby wipes to do everything.
