Last-All-Day Eyeliners

Section: Skin & Hair
Sometimes even several coats of mascara can’t perk up exhausted eyes, but a quick slick of liner defines and awakens your whole face, fast. Whether you’re a pro with liquid flicks, you’ve got the gel-liner-and-brush thing mastered, or you’re more into a quick smudge of kohl before running out the door, you’ll want it to stay put for hours without it smudging, budging or sporting panda eyes by lunchtime. Read on for our pick of the top long-lasting liners.

2True Waterproof Effortless Eyeliner, £1.99,

Make-up doesn’t get more affordable than this, but results aren’t compromised. If you prefer an ink pot-style liquid liner, this has an easy-to-control nib for precision and the formula dries to a genuine waterproof finish. An all round winner.

GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner £4.99,

Really soft, with zero drag as you’re applying (great if you’re in a hurry and you need to smudge on and go), but the formula then ‘sets’, giving you water-resistant definition.

Cosmetics a la Carte Stay-Put Eyeliner £25, talacartelondon.comd

Apply to clean lids if you can (too much eye cream around the eyes can make liner and mascara run and smudge) and this intensely black liquid liner dries in 15 seconds to a stay-put finish. It has a great, skinny nib for precise application or direct the pen sideways for a thicker line.

Charlotte Tilbury The Feline Flick, £22,

The perfectly-shaped nib allows you to draw the perfect flick in one easy stroke and colour doesn’t transfer, smudge or budge all day. Draws a true black line every single time.

Bourjois Liner Feutre, £6.99,

This budget-buy stands up against its more expensive counterparts. The felt-tip style pen draws an accurate line easily, the shades are really true and each product lasts a very long time.

Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner, £19,

The consistency is more waxy than a kohl, so it can drag a little if you're used to softer pencils. But it won’t budge until you remove it. Great if you suffer from watery eyes, slightly hooded lids (kohl can transfer onto them) or you want very low maintenance liner. The pencil twists up, so there’s no sharpening required either.

Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, £5.29,

If you find you suffer from weeping eyes or you’re planning an emotional day out, you can trust this liquid liner to stay exactly where you apply it. The pointed tip gives total control too, even on mornings where you need to slick on and go. □ □

Avon SuperShock Gel Eyeliner Pencil, £6,

This is literally a does-all liner – the gel-like texture glides on really smoothly, blends out easily, but it won’t move once it sets into place. The colours are super-intense too - brilliant for evening looks. □ □

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner, £7.99,

Gel liner pots can take a little more practice to master, but the formula can be applied in several ways – traced across the lashline, smudged in to create an easy smoky eye or even blended onto lids for an intense effect. Once applied, it won’t flake, crease or smudge. As with all gel eyeliners, make sure you secure the lid tightly otherwise the gel will dry out fast. □ □

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, £17.50,

This cult liner is a bit of a make-up artists’ secret for smoking up eyes, pushing colour into the roots of lashes (makes them look thick, dark and eyes bigger, without wearing tonnes of obvious liner) or drawing a precise line that won’t budge. Available in great muted, flattering shades.
