10 scents that will help you sleep better at night

After a long day, there's nothing better than a good night's sleep to prepare you for tomorrow. With a baby (or toddler) it's not always easy - or possible - to sleep through the whole night, but you could find yourself tossing and turning even when your little one is fast asleep.

There could be a whole range of reasons as to why you can't fall asleep at night, such as anxiety, allergies or even suffering from a simple cold. But who would have thought that something as simple as a few drops of essential oil on your pillow or a reed diffuser could help you get a better night's sleep?

We've listed 10 scents to spray in your room at night that will help you get a better night's sleep.

It's easy to understand how the sweet smell of vanilla can have a positive effect on your mood. The smell of vanilla can help to make a relaxing atmosphere, creating the perfect environment to fall asleep in.

The warm smell of sandalwood is great those who suffer from allergies and colds, as it helps to ease sleep disturbances. It also increases drowsiness, and encourages a deeper sleep.

Frankincense has been used for generations as it helps with relaxation and promotes a restful sleep. It has a sweet, earthy scent, and helps your body change to an ideal sleeping temperature, as well as helping to open your airwaves.

Lavender is known for it's relaxing qualities. It's a great sleep remedy as it helps to promote a deeper sleep as well as treating insomnia. Spray it on your pillow or bedding before you go to sleep, or buy lavander essential oil to put in a diffuser.

While Valerian extract can be used in hot drinks, the smell is known to promote drowsiness and induce sleep more quickly.

While lemon is a scent that doesn't appeal to everyone, it has some amazing benefits that will help you sleep. Lemon is great for helping to reduce anxiety, which often prevents you from falling asleep. It also helps to decrease insomnia, so if you're struggling to sleep, this diffuser should help.

Drinking chamomile tea before bed is known to help you sleep, but the smell of it also has some great, sleep-aiding benefits. It can help reduce the feeling of fatigue during the day while also helping to promote sleep and reduce insomnia at night.

This sweet flower has been put to the test to see what sleep benefits it has, and it's great for improving the quality of sleep you have. Ylang Ylang also helps to relax the body, fighting of depression and also eases high blood pressure.

Jasmine is an incredibly popular scent as it's sweet smelling, but it's also good for calming and soothing anxiety which helps to promote sleep. It's also known as a natural substitute for prescribed sleep aids.

If you struggle with allergies or are struggling with nasal congestion, Ravensara can help improve sleep quality for people experiencing these problems.
