Every new mum will have had that ‘oh gosh’ moment – whether it’s the day your partner returns to work, or a few sleepless weeks down the line, it’s perfectly normal to feel lonely, or that you just don’t quite feel like ‘you’ anymore. One man working to banish all these blues, through the power of hair, is Edward James.
With two salons in London, Ed not only has a set of magic treatments to revolutionise hair, he has that best-friend-come-hairdresser vibe, that’s infectiously spread throughout his salon. An hour into my treatment, we talk about post-pregnancy hair and the problems some women suffer, and Ed tells me it’s not just the hair he notices change. A good hairdresser is someone any woman will hang on to for years, and Ed explained that he would notice a difference in his clients’ post-pregnancy.
Sure, you’ve over the moon, you love your baby, but you can also feel incredibly lonely, and it’s these feelings that inspired Ed’s free coffee mornings for local mums, giving them a chance to meet, chat and get some much-needed TLC.
As Ed works his magic on my dried out, frazzled hair, I ask him what inspired these new mummy mornings. He tells me it’s all about giving back to the community. And it’s true, from the head massage before every treatment, to the beautiful interior, from the moment you step inside the salon, it’s hard not to be relaxed.
How does he feel about babies taking over his salon for a morning? Ed laughs, telling me he loves it. Apparently, the hairdryers create the perfect white noise, and before you know it you have 12 sleeping babies on your hands.
Of course, the treatment itself was wonderful too – a week later, my hair looks the best it ever has after my British Blow Dry treatment – a nourishing treatment that adds shine and moisture to the hair, leaving it looking and feeling healthier. A great option for new mums, the keratin protein tames unmanageable hair, leaving you with a smooth finish that requires minimal styling – something any new mum will agree is a blessing!
