1 in 5 Grandparents HATE their grandchild’s name

Choosing a name for your baby is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make, yet in a survey of over 2,000 grandparents on Gransnet, it was found that 1 in 5 grandparents can’t stand the names their children chose for their grandchildren.

The comment complaints were that the kids’ names were too hard to pronounce, or odd, or ‘made-up’. Other grandparents complained that their suggestions were not used, or that family names had been forgotten.

According to a recent poll by the Office of National Statistics, the most popular boys name in the UK is Oliver, and the most popular girls name is Olivia.

Interestingly, the study also revealed that 6% of parents admitted to having fallen out with their parents on in-laws about their choice of baby name, and a third said it wasn’t the grandparents’ business.
