According to a new scientific study, having a SISTER makes you a happier person

Sure, you might have gone through years of them stealing your wardrobe and opening your new mascara, but it turns out having a sister actually makes you a happier person.

Researchers at De Montfort University surveyed 571 people aged 17 to 25 and found that those with sisters tended to have more balanced lives. Professor Tony Cassidy from the University of Ulster said, ‘Sisters appear to encourage more open communication and cohesion in families.’

What’s more, it turns out brothers have the alternative effect, scientists adding – ‘It could be that boys have a natural tendency not to talk about things. With boys together it is about a conspiracy of silence not to talk. Girls tend to break that down.’

Scientists also found that having a sister made females more independent – girls who had sisters ranked highest in the study for independence, compared to boys who only had brothers who ranked the lowest.

What do you reckon, are you close to your sister? Do your kids communicate emotions either way? Let us know in the comments below!
