As women, there’s no getting away from the fact that periods are one of the most painful things we deal with each month – from the cramps, to the tender boobs and bloated tummy, they are not fun.
Yet if you’ve ever felt like your period pains have not been given the credit they deserve, this is all set to change as doctors have said menstrual cramps ‘hurt just as much as heart attacks’.
John Guillebaud, Professor of Reproductive Health at University College London said: ‘Men don’t get it and it hasn’t been given the centrality it should have. I do believe it’s something that should be taken care of, like anything else in medicine.’
Recent research has also shown that women’s pain is taken much less seriously by doctors in general. Whilst men wait an average of 49 minutes before being treated for abdominal pain, a woman with the same symptoms will wait an average of 65 minutes.
All we want to know is where giving birth comes into the equation!?
