Actress Alicia Silverstone Publishes Controversial Parenting Guide

Section: Celebrity Mums

The Clueless actress’ book covers her dislike for nappies, cots and infant vaccinations

Alicia Silverstone is just as famous for her strong parenting views as she is for her role in Clueless – and has decided to share some of them with the world in her new book The Kind Mama: A Simple Guide to Supercharged Fertility, a Radiant Pregnancy, a Sweeter Birth, and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning.

The actress, who’s mum to three-year-old son Bear Blu, has previously made headlines for supporting alternative parenting ideas, including eating pills made from her placenta and chewing food for her baby before he eats it.

Alicia’s book highlights her parenting preferences, which include advocating a bed rest period for mums after birth, to bond with their newborn – she herself stayed in bed for 10 days with her son was born – and also advising that children follow a plant-based diet.

The actress, 37, says that Bear, ‘loves tofu, beans and green vegetables.’ And when he asks for a food that’s not very healthy, she has a secret weapon…

Alicia writes that parents should let their children ‘leave their business in the grass'

‘Blueberries are a miracle. It's the easiest thing to distract them from anything,’ reveals the actress. ‘It's candy. So if they never know candy and they only know blueberries, isn't that a great thing.’

Alicia reveals in her book that she’s a fan of co-sleeping, saying, ‘Sharing a bed with your baby means you can tune in better to her needs, which in turn builds security and trust.’

Nappies are another area that Alicia covers in her book, writing that parents should let their children ‘leave their business in the grass.’
