The Olympic cyclist has confirmed the premature birth of his ‘beautiful baby son’

Sir Chris Hoy and his wife Sarra Kemp are now proud parents. The couple welcomed their first child, Callum, yesterday – 11 weeks early.

Chris broke the news last night, tweeting, ‘Amazed, delighted & a little shocked to announce the birth of our beautiful baby son, Callum David Robert Hoy! Born at 29weeks, today at 2pm.’

But despite Callum’s early arrival, Chris tweeted that his son is ‘doing well’.

The Olympic champion tweeted a photo of his son’s tiny hand holding his finger, with the caption, ‘Although v. early days for wee Callum, he’s doing well as is Sarra. Huge thanks to incredible medical staff.’

Chris’ fellow Olympic winner Rebecca Adlington was one of the first to congratulate him. Rebecca tweeted, ‘Congratulations to you both! Hope Sarra is going well as well as baby Callum!’

The couple announced that they were expecting their first baby in June and Chris recently talked about his excitement about becoming a dad. ‘I think maybe I’m just blindly optimistic that it’s going to be great fun and dead easy,’ the now-retired cyclist told Sky News. ‘I’m sure it won’t be, I’m sure they’ll be lots of tough things but I’m just very excited. It all seems to have happened at the right time.’
