Racing driver Lewis Hamilton received a social media backlash this week after uploading a series of videos of his adorable nephew, who can be seen wearing a princess dress. In one controversial clip, Hamilton can be heard saying ‘I’m so sad right now…look at my nephew.’
Hamilton then goes on to ask his nephew, ‘Why are you wearing a princess dress? Is this what you got for Christmas? Why did you ask for a princess dress for Christmas, boys don’t wear princess dresses!’
Oh dear Lewis. You’ve just opened a can of worms... pic.twitter.com/fpsiNeOZrd— Nabeela (@JustNabz) December 25, 2017
Although the little boy didn’t seem to mind, fans and parents have been furious with the gender shaming comments, sharing their thoughts on twitter.
The Formula One driver has since apologised, tweeting: ‘Yesterday I was playing around with my nephew and realised that my words were inappropriate so I removed the post. I meant no harm and did not mean to offend anyone at all. I love that my nephew feels free to express himself as we all should.’

He went on to tweet: ‘My deepest apologies for my behavior as I realise it is really not acceptable for anyone, no matter where you are from, to marginalise or stereotype anyone. I have always been in support of anyone living their life exactly how they wish and I hope I can be forgiven for this lapse in judgement.’
