We love a good pregnancy announcement here at Mother&Baby — some have definitely taken us (and, in some cases, the celebrities themselves) by surprise. From Halle Berry's joy at getting pregnant at 46, to Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher expecting their first child together, we've picked out some of the biggest shocks from the past year.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher
Hollywood couple Mila and Ashton managed to keep this little secret for quite some time, before officially revealing the happy news on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. They may be of the celebrity world’s best couples (Ashton really was Mila’s first kiss, aww…), but we didn’t quite see their pregnancy coming.
Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick
Kourtney took us – and partner Scott – by surprise when she announced her third pregnancy on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The reality star, who’s frequently admitted to loving pregnancy and motherhood on the show, also admitted to Scott that her latest pregnancy ‘was not a plan’.
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling
Millions of hearts broke around the world when the surprise news of Ryan becoming a dad broke (although it hasn't been officially confirmed by the pair). Well, if someone has to do it, the job of raising his child may as well go to the ridiculously beautiful and talented Eva Mendes. We cannot wait to see what their little bub looks like.
Sam Bailey and Craig Pearson
The X Factor winner had to postpone her tour when she discovered she was pregnant – and she found out whilst shopping in Asda. The former prison guard told The Sun, ‘I went in and did it while he was getting all the food…I came out and went “Yep – I’m pregnant!” It wasn’t planned.’
Megan Fox and Austin Green
Not one, but both of actress Megan Fox’s pregnancies were a complete surprise to her and husband Austin. ‘We can’t let Brian [Austin Green] near me anymore,’ Megan joked on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Megan has previously spoken of how much she is loving being a mum to baby boys Bohdi Ransom and Noah Shannon and how it is her most important role in life.
Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman
Simon Cowell a dad? We did not see that coming. And neither did he, after an affair with married socialite Lauren Silverman resulted in her getting pregnant. However, the couple couldn’t be happier with their new role of parents to baby Eric. Simon changing nappies? Who’d have thought it!
Natasha Hamilton and Ritchie Neville
Natasha Hamilton announced that she was pregnant with new partner Ritchie’s child in April this year. The singer, 31, who met 5ive’s Ritchie, 34, while filming ITV’s The Big Reunion last year, told OK! magazine that she didn’t think she would be able to get pregnant again, after having cysts removed from her ovaries.
Jennifer Ellison and Rob Tickle
The actress and presenter was shocked to learn she was pregnant earlier this year after being told that she couldn’t conceive. ‘I went to hospital to have the cysts scanned and they found a baby! You don’t think you have to be super careful with contraception when you’re told you can’t conceive,’ she told OK! magazine.
Singer Rebecca Ferguson found out she was pregnant after collapsing during a live performance on ITV’s Loose Women. The X Factor graduate took a pregnancy test after the appearance, only for it to come back negative, much to her confusion. A couple of days another came back positive and, as they say, the rest is history.
Halle Berry and Oliver Martinez
Extant actress Halle described her second pregnancy as the ‘biggest surprise of my life’. At 46, she certainly didn’t expect to be a mum for a second time with fiancé Oliver’s baby. ‘I thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful,’ Halle added.
Katie Price and Kieran Hayler
Katie was reportedly six (yes, six!) months’ pregnant before she found out following a holiday with her family in Cape Verde. ‘I didn't feel pregnant, though. The day we flew home, we all got into the house at 1am and I thought the first thing I'd do when I woke up was a pregnancy test,’ she wrote in her Now! column. The result was, of course, positive.
It’s not everyday you become a new mum – and grandmother – within the space of a month, but that is exactly what happened when Jade Jagger, 42, and her eldest daughter Assisi Jackson, 22, got pregnant at the same time.
