Engaged and pregnant with her first child, Scarlett Johansson wants to discover how to have a life that ticks every box
Scarlett Johansson has given a lot of magazine cover interviews in her time but this is the first since her pregnancy was all but confirmed.
Well, the interview was actually conducted for the Wall Street Journal magazine before news broke that 29-year-old Scarlett was expecting her first child (thanks to the loose lips of a Marvel producer), but her plan to become a mum was clear for all to see.
After the obligatory questions about her career - which is going great guns, in case you didn't know - Scarlett opened up about her desire to balance motherhood, work and a successful relationship, and it doesn't sound as if she'll settle for anything less than a life that delivers on all.
She said in the interview: 'It seems so stressful to not be able to spend time with your family because you're constantly chasing the tail of your own success. There must exist a world in which I can balance those things, be able to raise a family and still make a film a year, or work on my own, develop things, do theater. I want to be able to have it all. Selfishly.'
I want to be able to have it all. Selfishly.
We wouldn't call her selfish, but we know all too well the struggle that many women suffer to try to keep on top of all areas of their life.
At least Scarlett doesn't expect it to be handed to her on a plate: 'I know that with that there will be some sacrifices. I know that's the struggle with working mothers and successful careers. It happens.'
