Secrets Of The Royal Supernannies To Be Revealed In New TV Documentary

Nannies from the elite Norland College – which provided the nanny for Prince George – are to appear in a TV programme

From high-speed driving and martial arts to more traditional skills such as cooking and knowing how to sooth a crying baby, Norland nannies are the cream of the crop for childcare and beloved by celebrities and royalty alike.

In fact, they’ve been dubbed ‘Ninja’ or ‘James Bond’ nannies because of the many skills they learn during three years of rigorous training at the prestigious Norland College.

Now everyone can see exactly what goes into becoming a nanny in a new TV documentary airing tonight.

Norland nannies famously wear beige uniforms, brown hats and white gloves, with their hair pulled back into a bun, which has drawn comparisons with the Queen of nannies, Mary Poppins.

But instead of bottomless bags and flying umbrellas, these nannies are drilled in a brand of the Korean martial art Taekwondo, which teaches them to fend off assailant by putting them in a headlock while maintaining control of a pram.

They also have to learn first aid and lifeguard skills and high-speed driving so that they can escape from dangerous situations or over-enthusiastic paparazzi.

Prince William and Kate hired Norland College graduate, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, to look after Prince George.

If you’re thinking of hiring a nanny, it’s worth asking what skills he or she has. It might not stretch to Taekwondo or how to do a handbreak turn on an icy road, but many have knowledge of first aid.

Britain’s Poshest Nannies airs on ITV tonight at 9pm.
