Kirsty Alp, 36, and husband Matthew, 39, live in Norfolk with Willow, two, and Poppy, one. They’re expecting their third baby in June.

‘I was thinking about what I’d do on Christmas Eve for Father Christmas’ visit, and decided to put all our footprints under the tree with an extra tiny set. We used flour in a sieve to make it look like fallen snow, and I cut out our shoe prints from cereal packets. We then wrote all our Christmas cards and put a photo of the footprints inside before posting them. It was a lovely surprise for our family and friends.’

Madelijn Mclaughlin, 31, and husband John, 33, live in Manchester with Oliver, eight weeks.

‘My husband and I love surprises – we eloped to Barbados in 2014! We were on holiday in St Lucia when we found out we were pregnant. I had a tag from a present, and tied it round my middle with a ribbon. It said “Made with love”. We posted the photo on Facebook for our friends and family, who were shocked…and delighted!’

Danielle Curtis, 28, and fiancé Daniel Cowie-Smith, 30, live in Surrey with their son, Charlie Michael, one.

‘I wanted a fun way to tell my parents, and thought it would be lovely to include my brother. It just popped into my head that there are four letters in the word “baby”, and four of us. I bought four frames and put one of the letters in each of them, then wrapped them all up so I knew the order of the letters. When they opened them, they were looking at each other’s to see what letters everyone had. When they realised that together they spelt “baby”, their reaction was fantastic!”

‘When we were expecting Jessica, we’d just had a puppy, so took a photo of him with a “baby guard dog” sign.’
