Non-frumpy maternity gym clothes

Now that you're pregnant, there's no reason not to keep up your exercise regime.

Exercising while pregnant is perfectly safe, and encouraged (of course - if you’re concerned, consult your doctor), though you may want to steer clear of ab exercises.

During pregnancy, you'll want to update your gym gear to match your changing body. Think leggings with enough bump room, supportive sports bras and casual throw-ons that you'll get lots of wear our of postpartum, too.

Here's our guide to the very best gym gear for if you're expecting...

The best maternity sportswear:

Not only do we love the colour of these maternity sports leggings, but, best of all, they have a POCKET. The breathable mesh keeps you cool as you work out, and these will be comfy whatever type of exercise you're doing.

We love this geometric-patterned tank top which will flatter your growing bump. The soft lightweight fabric will keep you cool while you work out, perfect for mums-to-be experiencing hot flushes.

You can't go wrong with a black sports bra that will go with all your gym gear (and yes, your floral leggings included) This bra includes drop-down clips ideal for nursing.

These oh-so comfy maternity cycling shorts will give your bump lots of support throughout pregnancy - and doubles up as perfect postpartum loungewear, too. One mum reviewer commented to say she loved these for wearing under clothes day-to-day (genius):

"I wear these under my skirts and dresses. Makes it way more decent when playing with my one-year-old, which prevents chaffing."

A brightly coloured vest always helps motivate you for your workout, and there's no way this neon pink could ever be called frumpy. Cardio meets catwalk with this racerback vest that you'll wear for ages after baby arrives.

Comfortable, supportive and stylish, this gorgeous maternity bra will be your go-to during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It has discreet pop-clip drop-down shoulder straps perfect for nursing.

Get moving with the Seraphine Active Kit – perfect for pregnancy yoga, jogging, gym sessions and more. This two-piece set a racerback tank top which is secure, super-breathable and stylish and workout pants which offer a comfy seamless waistband which can be worn over the bump or folded down after birth.

This well-designed maternity sports bra provides optimum support during pregnancy and drop down cups for easy-access breastfeeding when you exercise after baby is born. It is suitable for high impact maternity and postnatal exercise. Firm elastic under the bust holds the bra comfortably to the body during exercise, beathable panels and Coolmax fabrics add comfort and moisture-wicking and six hook-and-eye extensions allow for comfortable adjustment as your body changes.

Flattering and a great throw-on for every day. It has a lot of space for your growing belly and ideal for low-intensity training.

A cult-favourite with gym-goers and for good reason too. The Ultra Run Sports Bra is designed for high-impact activities (running and jumping, we see you) and it's compression technology means zero jiggle. We love the padded shoulder straps which provide extra comfort.

If you can forgive the Americanised spelling (if you're a Brummy this won't matter) then this slogan tee will show everyone who's boss in the gym. Add power and attitude to your active pregnancy or postnatal workout. This vest is made of stretchy, fully opaque, moisture-wicking cotton with elastane, has a flattering longer length and curved hem and is designed to fit without riding up when you stretch up.

These new leggings from Latched are designed for workouts, but are comfy enough to wear round the house too. They're high-waisted, covering your bump comfortably. They don't go see-through and are squat-proof - no big knickers on display when you're doing yoga in these babies. Available in sizes from XS to XXL; they're good enough to keep wearing after baby arrives too.
