The Doona is the world’s first infant car seat with fully integrated wheels, switching from chair to pushchair in seconds. The system has four wheels that collapse under the seat base; when the wheels are released (with the push of a button – one hand holds the seat handle and the other releases the wheels) hey presto! you have a pram.

Although the product is easily dismissed as a novelty item, the concept is genius! The Doona is fantastic on the school run, for popping to the shop or on any day when you are in and out of the car at regular intervals. It’s a real time saver but to have the full advantage of un-wasted minutes the Doona attaches best to an ISOFIX base; without which, inserting and removing the chair can become niggly. The fabric is lovely and soft, and the newborn insert, which can be adjusted as baby grows, is comfortable.

The product comes with a comprehensive range of accessories, including a rain-cover, basket and a travel mat (for the car). The handle bar on the pram is a bit short for taller users and the hood sags in the middle but these flaws do not detract from the ingenuity of the product. As a pram for quick trips and urban living, the Doona is unrivalled in convenience.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this car seat at newborn stage as we had great trouble transferring our baby from his car seat to the pram base, this would have made our life so much easier. It is very nice to look at and does look very comfortable for baby, but you would still have to buy a pram separately as I couldn't see myself using this all the time.

I really like the concept behind this but I couldn't see me using it very much especially as the baby got heavier as I can't see it being very easy to use then. The seat is very low when in the pram setting so the baby is very low down and also there is no basket storage underneath which is handy when you are out and about.

What changes would you make to this product?

The concept behind the design would definitely make your life easier but I think this would only be for a short time. I think the base needs to be taller so the baby is not so low down, this then may make room for some storage underneath that could be incorporated or added on separately. Also when the weather is bad the wheels may damage the car seat interior so maybe could have something to cover them when in car seat mode.

This product is ingenious - it solves the problem of needing a separate base to adapt the seat and turn it into a pushchair. I loved the way the wheels neatly fold away when the seat needs to be used in the car and the way the wheels unfold and the height of the handle adapts so easily to turn the seat into a useable pushchair.

How did this product make your life easier?

This product makes my life easier as a mum as it removes the need to have a separate pram base to adapt the seat into a pram or pushchair. I loved the design of the seat and the ease at which the seat can transform to have wheels or put the wheels away. The inclusion of the clip on bags and rain cover make this product easy to use and adaptable for a variety of occasions.

This product is unique and solves the problem of needing a separate base to convert the car seat for travelling by foot. Its ingenious design makes life easier for parents that have limited space at home or in the car. It is suitable to use as a buggy for short distances so parents may need a more hard wearing buggy in addition.

What changes would you make to this product?

I loved the design of this product. If there was one thing I would change would be the sturdiness of the wheels although I know this may be a problem due to the compact design. I feel that for the product to be value for money it needs to be able to be used as a buggy that securely and reliably travels on a variety of terrain.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this car seat to a mum if they weren't looking to get a pram or didn't want to be taking the pram out with them a lot. It's a great feature making the car seat turn into a pram, it made popping in to the shops easier as I didn't have to balance my groceries on a pram base in my boot.

How did this product make your life easier?

I was just popping to the shops or out for a coffee I didn't need to worry about taking a pram base I could just use the car seat. Any shortcut for a mum is a godsend so this feature was used a lot.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing about this product is the fact that it wasn't easy taking bubs in/out of the car seat without unstrapping it or taking the seat out. Sometimes I don't need a pram as she is going in my harness or we are just going to a friends house so I'll just carry her in. The fact that there's a bit of fiddling to do this is a little annoying but not a deal breaker.

I think the design of this product is amazing and having seen it I now don't know why it's taken so long for someone to think of this fantastic idea. It so incredibly easy to use, just one little button and the wheels unfold and it becomes a pushchair. It's heavier to carry about than comparable car seats but the idea is that you can push rather than carry. I find the product very easy to use and very innovative so I would recommend this product, particularly to first time mums or those whose children walk.

How did this product make your life easier?

Having to take a baby out of a car seat and transfer to a pram can cause disruption to a sleeping child and takes up valuable time. This is why it's handy when you can leave your baby in a car seat and use adaptors to put the car seat on your pram but this product removes all those time consuming, fiddly and disruptive steps... You simply press a button and the seat converts into a pushchair and you are ready to go. Although when it's raining it can be a pain folding up and placing wet wheels in the car.

Would you choose this product to win?

Although the product comes with a hefty price tag it must be remembered that this is a car seat and a pushchair all in one. The standout factor about this product has to be its uniqueness within the market. Some may not like the fact it doesn't have a shopping basket / storage but there are severally accessories you can add to make room for you to carry bits and bobs. Above all, it's easy to use.

What changes would you make to this product?

There are two things I would change with this product. If you have two children, often other pushchairs allow attachments which would allow a child to sit or stand on a board like a skateboard. This product doesn't currently allow for this option which could be a bit of a hinderance as your second child would have to walk while you use this pushchair. For this reason it may suit first time mums better, or those with confident walkers. The second thing I would improve is the quality of the material, perhaps make it more luxurious.

This is a great car seat and pram at the same time. It has great design and wonderful safety features. The great thing about this car seat is that it can convert into a pram without having to add a frame or adapt to any other pram frame. It is great to use in cities and to travel on planes as it is narrow enough to fit in a plane's aisle.

How did this product make your life easier?

It is easy to assemble and carry around and it saves parents having to carry and extra pair of wheels. It has also a great design and it is fairly light. It is great to use in cities and short journeys. It is very easy to use and saves so much space in the car and in the house. It rolls very easily and is very manoeuvrable.

Would you choose this product to win?

It is very comfortable for both parents and child. It is also very secure and very easy to carry around. It saves a lot of space and it is very compact. It glides very easy and it is very stylish.

What changes would you make to this product?

The seat fabric should be removable and the canopy should be designed bigger. The canopy can definitely be improved and the car seat is a bit heavy, especially once the baby starts getting heavy. The handlebar could go up a bit longer to ensure tall parents feel comfortable pushing the chair. This car seat is great for the city use but not very good for countryside as the wheels are not very robust for difficult terrain.

Shortlisted for Innovation of the Year Award 2015

The Doona infant car seat is the very thing that mums on the school run always talk about – a seat that converts into a buggy...better known as convenience deluxe! It’s brilliant for quick trips and short errands; nipping around the supermarket or fetching big sisters and brothers from afternoon activities. The car seat changes into a buggy easily although slightly more pushing and pulling is required to get it back to seat mode. It’s ideal for parents with small cars and it frees up boot space, which is great for shopping trips.

In pram mode, the Doona doesn’t feel as secure as similar products (the handle is especially plastic-y) but it is lightweight and the brakes work a dream. It’s also the perfect size for navigating narrow aisles or crowded streets although there is not really anywhere to store shopping. Another thing to remember when using the Doona is that little ones shouldn’t be left in car seats for longer than a couple of hours, which might easily be a time limit overrun when converting the car seat straight to pram mode without moving baby.

Pram accessories (bag, rain cover) must be purchased separately, including wheel covers, which are a must (albeit an extra expense) – otherwise you’ll be dirtying your car with rained on, muddied buggy wheels!

It’s an expensive product that will be used for what could potentially not be any great length of time but it is super convenient and undeniably innovative!
