This Maxi-Cosi AxissFix Car Seat i-Size seat offers the choice of seating direction – either rear-facing from four months until two years (61–87cm), or forward-facing from 15 months to four years (88–105cm). It’s secured using ISOFIX connectors and a top tether. Our testers highly rated this seat’s 360° rotating feature, finding it ideal for toddlers.

Tested by Aisling Alsopp, 28, mum to Monty, four months.

She says: “This Maxi-Cosi AxissFix Car Seat is easy to install and takes up less space than many others because there’s no ISOFIX leg to anchor. It looks gorgeous too, and the rotating feature is amazingly easy to use. However, the shell is so much smaller than the other seats tested and I wonder whether it will really last until my child is four years old.”

Tested by Laura Allen, 36, mum to Riley, 15 months.

She says: “I like this seat’s compact design, and the fact it doesn’t need a cumbersome ISOFIX support leg. One of our cars isn’t compatible with the securing tether system, though, so be sure that yours is. The cord that is used instead is annoying and Riley keeps fiddling with it, so it’s best used forward facing. However, it’s easy to install, and even rotates when it’s reclined.”

Tested by Dawn Geddes, 35, mum to Beth, three years.

She says: “Beth can be a monkey when it comes to getting into the car. I often have to chase her into the seat, which can stress me out, but the strap hooks to hold the harness out of the way made the Maxi-Cosi AxissFix Car Seat easy to get her in and out quickly and safely with no toddler dramas. It’s extremely easy to install and noticeably lighter than the other seats we tested. I really like the additional safety feature of the top tether too.”

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

This car seat is even better than the 2-way pearl because of its axiss which allows the seat to rotate 360 degrees! It was a delight to be able to turn my child safely and easily towards me to remove him from his seat. No more back ache! The Maxi-Cosi AxissFix Car Seat is one in which I would recommend to all of my fellow Mum friends. I think it's certainly worth the money even when buying the compatible base. The reason for this is although it's one initial outlay, the seat can be used from 4 months to 4years with your child being able to travel rear facing until they are 2 years of age. I tested the swivel lock many times and it is very easy to use and convert the seat to forward facing as and when it's needed.

The 360 swivelling seat is just amazing! Getting my son out of the car is no longer a struggle!

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

The price could be a little lower as I think many families won't be able to afford this car seat but for me, saftey comes first and as mentioned above, the seat if used over four years means the seat isn't too costly (as long as you're not involved in an accident in the meantime!).

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I have a very heavy boy for his age and getting him out of my small car has hurt my back many times. I love the 360 turn, it's not difficult to use and very easy to fit. I'd recommend this car seat to all Mums who want a seat that makes getting their child in and out of the car easy. The seat was very comfortable for my son, it has lots of padding. The cover doesn't look very easy to remove for washing though.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

On the occasions when my son has a tantrum about getting in the car, the swivel on the chair makes it much easier for me to get him in the car and strapped in. I don't have to step into the car any more!

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

Make it accessible for all Isofix cars as I understand not all cars have the hook at the back but this is needed in its current design for the seat to rotate.

Why would you recommend this product to a friend/fellow mum?

I would recommend this product above any other that I have been involved with testing. This product is brilliant and in my opinion, there should be 1 for every child in every car. The ISOFIX system makes fitting the seat one of the easiest processes and the seat is light enough to do this with 1 hand allowing me to wrestle with my child in the other. The fact that the seat will then turn 90 degrees to face you whilst you put your child into the seat is completely astounding. This feature on its own is worth its weight in gold. Once the child is sitting, the harness is very easy to fix and adjust meaning that there is very little time wasted getting the child in the car. A quick turn of the seat and the child is secure and ready for travelling. The padding and materials in the seat are durable and comfortable and the seat oozes safety at every feature. All of the tilt functions, the indicator light confirming the seat is fitted correctly and the fact that you can still use the car seat belt too all adds to a brilliant product that is a real winner in my mind.

How does this product make your life easier as a mum?

There are so many features that make my life easier: 90 degree swivel - so easy to put my child in and out. Easy to adjust harness. ISOFIX. Washable fabric covering. Multi level recline. There are too many to mention them all but these are the ones that particularly stand out for me.

If you could change one thing about this product what would it be?

I think that the Maxi-Cosi AxissFix Car Seat is brilliant and deserves every accolade. I would not change anything as it is almost as though the designers have been in my head and designed the seat.
