At a glance:

A lie-flat lounger when strolling and a lie-flat for snoozes in the car, this car seat cleverly converts in an instant from cuddly carrycot to infant car seat. Suitable rearward facing from birth, the i-Level features the ultimate protection and security for your little one. For your comfort, the Joie i-Level has an ergonomic carry handle and a full body insert which can easily be removed. The removable sun canopy shades your little one and features a zip-open ventilation panel to keep them comfy in any weather.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Jessica: This seat is a lot more stylish than Joie's previous models. It can be fitted only via an ISOFIX. This is ok for us but it doesn't work for everyone. It is safer for babies to lie as flat as possible so having a near lie-flat position really supports these recommendations. This promotes healthy spine development and makes it easier for babies to breathe more comfortably. I appreciated the extendable canopy as it’s really practical. It can be removed or opened for ventilation and adequate sun protection.

Stacey: I would recommend this product to other mums due to its robust and sturdy design. This is very reassuring for parents as you know your baby is safe whilst travelling. It looks very stylish and modern. I think mothers would definitely like how attractive it is. It is very easy to use and you can take it in and out of the car very quickly. This would be a product that you could easily take on holiday too.

Michelle: I would recommend the Joie i-Level car seat because of the i-size safety feature and as it has the lie flat option. It is a well-padded seat with a super large removable sun canopy that also has a ventilation panel. The seat alone is not too heavy to carry and it is nice that you don't have to move the harness as your baby grows as it automatically moves as you expand the seat.

How did this product make your life easier?

Samantha: I love the fact this is both a carrier and a car seat. It is lightweight compared to other makes of carrier. Having been given an alternative car seat for our newborn and subsequently having to buy a separate Isofix unit, it was great that the Joie arrived boxed with the Isofix included. This car seat is quick and easy to install. Our daughter is quite tall now and it was simple to remove the newborn insert. The seat straps are very quick and easy to lock.

Lucie: This is a lightweight, sleek product that was easy to fit with either the Isofix base or by using seat belts. The seat was lightweight and easy to carry. It is significantly lighter in weight than my other seat. The sleek black design was easy on the eye and looked appealing in the car or on the pushchair base. The adapters were easy to fit onto the base of the pushchair. The Isofix base clipped easily into the car and the seat was snug and safe. The insert that is included makes the seat smaller for newborns and I liked that it was included.

Rachel: The Isofix system, once installed, makes the use of the car seat quick and easy. It is also compatible with some prams making a convenient travel system. The near lie flat position that the seat reclines to is a nice feature for newborns as it is not recommended that they sit for too long in a car seat.

Would you choose this product to win?

Michelle: The biggest winning factor for the Joie i-Level is the lie flat feature with the latest safety standard of i-size. It looks good, feels nice and sturdy and is comfortable to carry. It has lots of padding in the seat and to support the head. The grow together feature looks and sounds great but because it all adjusts simultaneously it didn't fit our long baby as advised in the book. Compared to other seats it seemed jiggly when fitted in the base even when it showed it was fitted correctly. The large sun canopy is also a winner.

Samantha: This car seat really does tick all the boxes. From the way the carrier and the Isofix arrived together, to the ease of installation, to the quality of the product. I am a total convert to Joie. I really like the fact that the Isofix doesn't require batteries. It's one less thing to worry about and means you don't have the issues with loose connections which you have with other models. The whole seat and Isofix are surprisingly lightweight.

Lucie: I like the aesthetics of this product. It is sleek and stylish. The feature that was most appealing to me, was that it was lightweight and easy to carry. My apartment is on the third floor and I found the seat significantly lighter than the one I purchased originally. If the seat matched the leading safest seats on the market, then I would definitely recommend this product to win. It’s lightweight, sleek, easy to fit and most importantly snug and comfortable for my baby.

What changes would you make to this product?

Rachel: I would look to make the product lighter. Carrying your little one in a car seat this heavy is particularly difficult. If you don't intend to use your car seat as part of a travel system and just leave it in the car this is not an issue. There are lie flat models available on the market so I don't know why you would make it nearly lie flat. People will either buy a standard car seat or lie flat one. I don't entirely see the point of nearly lie flat.

Stacey: I would change the way in which you release the straps. This was very awkward and fiddly due to where the mechanism was situated. I was also disappointed that this car seat did not fit on my pushchair, meaning I had to carry it everywhere without the option to put it on wheels.

Michelle: The one thing I would change with the Joie i-level i-size is the grow together feature. The multi-height headrest and harness system adjust simultaneously and do not require any rethreading of the harness as your little one grows. Overall this sounds a great feature but if your baby is not of the average shape or size this doesn't work.
