At a glance:

We absolutely love the little screw tops on these pasta Bolognese pouches, minimising messy changing bag explositions. The flavour is great and is packed full of good stuff. Remember to bring a spoon with you, as there’s not one included.

What they say:

“Organic Mamia pasta bolognese - suitable from 7 months onwards, slightly textured. A textured blend of organic beef, carrot, sweet potato and onion in a tomato sauce with organic cooked pasta. No added salt or preservatives. Textured to encourage chewing.”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would highly recommend this product to other mums and already have done to my friends. The Mamia Bolognese Pasta Bake is a quick and easy meal for baby, it smells and tastes home-made, the texture is just right for a stage two puree. The pouch could be warmed or given at room temperature and is exceptionally good value for money.

How did this product make your life easier?

The Mamia Bolognese Pasta Bake makes life easier for me as a mum because I can grab the pouch and go. I know my baby will enjoy eating it and it is so much easier than finding somewhere to heat home-made food or deal with washing bowls when out and about. The pouch can be warmed in hot water or given at room temperature and given straight from the pouch with a spoon.

Would you choose this product to win?

I love this because it is such good value for money compared to similar products on the market. My baby loves it because it smells good, tastes good and looks good. It is also convenient for me to pick up with the weekly shop. Why pay more when you don't need to?

What changes would you make to this product?

In order to improve the product, an integral spoon on the pouch could be added? This would make it even easier to use when away from home as it would eliminate the need to take any cutlery or bowls with you. The product could also maybe be available in a different size for babies that have smaller or larger appetites.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would definitely recommend this product to all of my fellow mummies and friends. It is amazing value for money. In addition to that it is so convenient and ideal for on the go lunches, like when we're at baby club and it has a great flavour that my baby loves with all the extra added vitamins and nutrients. It fits in perfectly amongst my baby bag which is handy as it is very quickly full up! With a spinning top it is so handy to pour half out and save the other half for later.

How did this product make your life easier?

It makes life as a mum much easier as I am able to feed my baby on the go, whether I am at a friends house I or out for the whole day. It means that I have food conveniently available to my baby when I haven't had the time to make up a homemade meal myself – I love it! It also means when my baby is having a fussy moment and will refuse to eat the dinner I have cooked, I have a great alternative readily available. In addition to this my baby is able to feed herself thanks to the great design.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would definitely choose this product above others on the market. The one thing that really makes this product stand out is how convenient the pouch is! With that being said there are many others like this on the market, however my baby is extremely fussy and loved this flavour, so for me that is the biggest winner of them all.

What changes would you make to this product?

One thing that I would like to change would be the spinning top design. My baby somehow managed to cut her lip when she helped herself to the pouch out of her baby bag and tried to feed herself with the lid on. Now I have to make sure that they are well out of her reach until we are both ready for it, as I would hate for it to happen again. Another thing that could be changed is how easily a baby can squeeze the pouch all over themselves – this isn't a big issue but I can see how for some people this may be troublesome. Another recommendation would be if to attach a spoon – that would be a lifesaver for the many times I have gone out and forgotten to take a spoon with me. As a whole though, I think the product is great and needs little changing to it!

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to any new mum as the pouch is easy to heat up and open. Also if out and about it is so easy to transport and if you only want to use a small quantity it can be closed back up and used again. It is small and compact and easy to transport. The lid screws on perfectly so there are never any spills or mess.

How did this product make your life easier?

I find this product really easy and convenient to use, having a 10-month-old baby and having time to prepare meals sometimes is impossible, but the pouch is really easy to prepare. I have much more time to spend with my baby when using these pouches as I put them in boiling water to heat up and then into his plate.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would definitely choose this product compared to some of the others on the market. Firstly the cost is nearly less than half the price of others and the quality of the food is impressive. Secondly, the colourful design on the packaging is also very pleasing.

What changes would you make to this product?

If need be, the only thing I would say that needs to be changed is the consistency of the food; it is marked on the pouch seven months plus so I feel it could be a bit thicker in consistency as my little boy does like things a bit thicker and chunkier. That said, I really wouldn't see this as a problem and it wouldn’t put me off buying them again.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The pouch design makes it ideal for meals on the go as it fits in your changing bag easily and doesn’t take up much room. The pouch is much better than baby food in jars, as you are not worried about it smashing in your bag and the design also makes the food much easier to warm up, as the pouch material isn’t very thick so once you place it in hot water it doesn’t take long to get to a nice temperature. This meal is great for weaning as it has a bit of texture in the food to get your baby used to different thicknesses. I would also recommend this product due to the price; looking after a baby isn’t cheap!

How did this product make your life easier?

Having this product makes my life easier as a mum as I can’t always find time to make a home cooked meal for my baby with such a busy lifestyle. Giving my baby this pouch saves time which means I have time for other things, such as taking the little one to mother and baby groups rather than spending time cooking. The pouch design itself makes life a lot easier as I can pop one in my changing bag if we are going out for the day. It also is very light and doesn’t take up much room in the changing bag.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would, and already do, choose this product above all others on the market for a few reasons. Firstly, the cost cost of this product; it is half the price of similar products which is a massive bonus. Another reason is that I already shop at Aldi so I can pick up these pouches on my weekly shop, which is a bonus as I do not have to make an additional trip to another supermarket for my baby’s food. Finally, being organic with no added salt or preservatives gives me peace of mind that this is a well-balanced healthy meal for a growing baby.

What changes would you make to this product?

One thing I would change about this product would be to add in more of the spaghetti pieces of pasta; not a lot so it wasn’t a stage two pouch, but I think a few more wouldn’t harm. Sometimes there aren’t many pieces of pasta in the pouches at all, so I think adding a handful more would be fine. Another thing I would change about the Aldi Mamia pouch range in general would be the range of flavours – I don’t think there is enough variety or choice in the meals. Having said this, I still would recommend this product to others and definitely think it deserves to win in this category.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes, it is nutritious, easy to prepare and yummy for little tummies. The packet was easy to open and the bolognese only took a very short time to heat up. Also, the packaging is lovely to look at and the price is very reasonable!

How did this product make your life easier?

It was very fast to heat up, which is great when you are a busy mum. It was a good portion size, so I did not have to worry about the meal not filling my baby up. Cooking isn't always possible, so it is good to know there is a healthy meal in the cupboard that is easy and quick to prepare.

Would you choose this product to win?

I do not think I would choose this product specifically if there were others that were on offer that were cheaper. It was lovely and baby liked it, but there are other alternatives you can buy which are very similar. I think this product should do well though because of the value for money and how fast it could be heated up.

What changes would you make to this product?

As with all baby food, it would be ensuring there are less 'nasties' in it and making the food is as pure as possible. Obviously because of shelf lives, this is not always possible, but it would be nice if even more vegetables were added in, as that is something that many mums are concerned about.
