Aldi Mamia Follow On Formula Milk Review

Mother&Baby Awards
  • 2019 Shortlisted Best Bottle Feeding Product

At a glance:

Aldi's Infant Formula Milk and Follow-On Formula are a natural extension of their Mamia range. They provide parents with an alternative to the more expensive branded products in this category.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Kelly: The price is fantastic. It is a nice bright tin so that you can easily see that it’s the follow-on milk and not first infant milk. It mixes very easily and is gentle on your baby’s tummy. The instructions on the tin are very clear and easy to follow. It is readily available so there are no worries about not being able to grab some last minute if needed.

Dani: I probably wouldn’t recommend this product. However, every baby is different. Something that doesn’t work for me may work for another parent and their child. I would recommend it because of the price. It is very affordable considering the retail price of other brands.

Jasmin: I would recommend this product because it is very good value for money at nearly half the price of its competitors. It smells nicer than other products I have used and mixes just as well without clumping or leaving a residue. The scoop seems to be a little smaller than my previous brand, but the ratio of powder to water is still the same, so potentially you would get more bottles from this tub. It did give my little one an upset stomach when I changed over from my usual formula, but this has subsided after a week.

How did this product make your life easier?

Lauren: I had always chosen the big-name-brands for formula before receiving Mamia Follow On Formula Milk to test. After the introduction of food, my little girl became increasingly fussy over her follow-on formula and it felt it was a waste of money, with her only drinking minimal amounts. However, this was not the case with the Mamia Follow On Milk. She seemed to really like it and it's a lot cheaper than the leading brands.

Jenna: The tub is not very user-friendly. It is very messy when trying to get the powder out using the spoon. The tub would be better designed if it was a little larger so you could get your hand in further and have more room to scoop the powder out. The spoon is a little shallow too. I think just a little tweaking with the design of the container and spoon would make a mums life easier.

Kelly: It’s easy to use, has clear instructions and the price is fantastic. The scoop in the top makes it easy to measure out the correct amount of milk and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. It is always available in all three of my local stores so I know we can always get some. It mixes very easily.

Would you choose this product to win?

Dani: Personally I don’t think this product should win. The powder is too thick to make a bottle quickly enough for a hungry baby. They need to make sure the powder has all the nutrients in but it is still easy to mix a bottle within a short time space.

Jasmin: I would choose this product above all others because it is superb value for money. It seems to be as good quality as other similar formula products on the market and it should last longer as the scoop is smaller for the same ratio of powder to water. The tub is metal and therefore can be locally recycled which makes me feel better. I don't like having to bin other products which are not recyclable.

Lauren: Yes because of value for money. I think this milk really delivers. Once this was introduced to my daughter's diet she started enjoying follow-on milk and finishing her bottles. I have a happy, healthy little girl and a slightly happier bank account too.

What changes would you make to this product?

Jenna: The packaging. It’s very fiddly and messy to get the powder out. I think the tub is too small. If it were a little wider it would be a lot easier and cleaner to get the formula out without spilling it. It would also be handy to have somewhere on the lid to place the spoon whilst not in use as it quite often gets buried in the powder and you then have to shake the tin or rummage through the powder to find it.

Kelly: A clip inside the lid for the measuring scoop. Every time we open a new tin, we have to dig around for the scoop. If it is knocked by accident it then gets lost under all the powder which means more mess trying to find it. This is the only thing we dislike about the Mamia Follow On Milk.

Dani: I would change the design as I didn’t find this product very appealing. The price was sensible but sometimes you have to pay extra money for something decent. I would prefer to pay more for a product which I know is going to mix well and make my baby happy. I think they should change the design of the product, the formula quality and then the price.
