At a glance:

The Lansinoh HPA Lanolin nipple cream is a simple, but effective product we love. Made from natural ingredients, you don’t need to wipe it off before feeding your baby. To top things off, it’s also great value for money.

What they say:

"Lansinoh HPA® Lanolin is the safest, purest nipple cream and completely hypoallergenic. It has been specially developed to help soothe and protect sore, cracked nipples in breastfeeding mothers."

Tested by mum Saira Aslam for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This is a no nonsense simple and safe cream for those first few weeks of breastfeeding, when cracks and sores are a problem and a hindrance to a pleasant breastfeeding experience. The small tube is great for having in different places around the house where I nurse and it’s great that it’s safe for baby, so it can be used as much as you wish to help healing.

How did this product make your life easier?

This was one of the products gifted to me by many of my mum friends and I can understand why! I definitely feel that the cracks and sores healed quicker by using these. Occasionally I've used this as nappy cream when I couldn't find any in the nappy bag and it also worked great as a barrier cream!

Would you choose this product to win?

I think this product should win because of how good it is at helping to protect nipples from further damage and how effective it was at healing cracks and sores. It’s also great that it doesn't need to be wiped off and that it doesn't contain harsh chemicals. I would recommend this to all mums who choose to breastfeed their babies.

What changes would you make to this product?

There isn't much I would change about this product as I found it so helpful, but if there was any way it could be less gloopy that would be perfect, as it did stick to clothing and left a bit of a residue. The smell could be improved too.

Tested by mum Emily Lynam for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes, especially any mothers struggling with breastfeeding babies with tongue tie or problems latching on, as this causes a lot more nipple problems. I think the big tube is the right size if you are needing to use it long term but seems like a lot of money if you only use it short term.

How did this product make your life easier?

I have been lucky enough so far not to have developed sore or cracked nipples yet, from breastfeeding my now six-week-old baby girl. However, I used this cream for the first few weeks when they were a little bit tender and I found it very soothing. It was easy to use and a handy size to keep in my baby changing bag.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think this is the most recognisable brand for nipple cream and I would be reluctant to try any other brand, so I would say it currently monopolises the market as it is a great product. I feel that Lansinoh is almost a household name in the baby market and the cream works effectively achieving its purpose successfully (it does exactly what it says on the label).

What changes would you make to this product?

I do feel that this product is slightly overpriced but as I have already said, it does what it should, so is well worth the money to support successful breastfeeding!

Tested by mum Beckie Moore for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this cream, it has been my saviour. As a mum that has suffered with sore cracked nipples, this product has helped me to continue breastfeeding for as long as I have. The fact you can feed straight away without wiping away is the biggest hit and it helps soothe the nipple area.

How did this product make your life easier?

This product is fabulous and is so much more convenient than other products on the shelf. The fact you don't have to wipe it off before feeding your baby is a big hit. It doesn't affect feeding at all and it's a perfect size tube to pop in your changing bag or handbag – my life is definitely easier all round, especially with a hungry baby.

Would you choose this product to win?

Definitely yes! It is by far the best product I have tried. The small size tube is so convenient as you can pop it into any bag. It's one product that I would definitely recommend to a friend or even buy for a friend in need, as I know it is worth the money.

What changes would you make to this product?

This is just nit-picking but the one thing I would change is the size of the hole in the tube, as when it is cold it is hard to squeeze the cream out of the tube and hard to rub into your nipple.

Tested by mum Louise Fitzgerald for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to a fellow mum who is breastfeeding as the early days can be really tough, with sore, cracked nipples being one of the main complaints of new breastfeeding mothers. The product contains no additives, preservatives or chemicals meaning your baby can latch on after applying the product, and a happy mum for having soothed nipples.

How did this product make your life easier?

This product makes my life easier as a mum as it is such a multi-purpose product. I have used the product not only for sore cracked nipples, but also as a lip balm and a nappy rash barrier cream. It's nice to have a product in the change bag that has a multitude of uses as you have to carry so many items as a new mum.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think the big winner for this product is its 100% natural ingredients. The lack of other ingredients and the 'no fragrance' smell makes you feel confident about not needing to remove the product before breastfeeding, which just helps make a new mums life easier. I love that the product boasts multi uses, meaning that it can be used long after the early breastfeeding days.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing about this product it would be the sticky texture - which at times can feel a bit messy. I also think it is quite expensive.

Tested by mum Harriet Poulton for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this to another mum if she had sore nipples when beginning breastfeeding. I was fortunate enough to have experienced very little pain during the beginning of my breastfeeding journey, but I think in the first few weeks this product would have been very useful. It has a thick consistency, but once warmed between the fingers it has a lovely silky feel to it. It's great that it doesn't need to be removed before feeding. I also love that it has completely natural ingredients and it has lots of uses as well as for sore nipples.

How did this product make your life easier?

It's a great product that can be used for lots of different things. As well as to aid nipple soreness it can be used on dry skin, nappy rash or even as lip balm. It keeps the skin lovely and soft and also lasts quite a while so you don't need to apply much. I love that it doesn't need to be removed before feeding and that it comes in a handy tube which is small enough that it doesn't take up too much room in the changing bag.

Would you choose this product to win?

It is a well trusted brand and I think if you are choosing to breastfeed it is a really handy product. I personally didn't use any nipple cream in the beginning and don't really need to now but I like that I can still use it for other things. While it can be used for a variety of different things I think that it is maybe a bit pricey.

What changes would you make to this product?

It is a well trusted brand and I think if you are choosing to breastfeed it is a really handy product, but the price is just a bit high for what it is!

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This is a total necessity for any new mum. With both my babies I have used this cream and it has really worked for me. I applied it regularly and didn't ever get sore nipples when other friends have done. The purple tube is distinctive and easy to find in your handbag and the cream dispenses easily.

How did this product make your life easier?

Not having sore nipples when breastfeeding is essential, it enables you to establish and continue to breastfeed your baby which is the most important thing ever. This cream is a key part of the toolkit that can help to make this happen! It doesn't so much make your life easier - it actively helps you on your breastfeeding journey.

Would you choose this product to win?

I wouldn't even look at another product, this is the one that works for me and many other mums and I'll stick to the best. The formula, the packaging and the colour of the tube all work brilliantly. I don't think it could be improved unless it could breastfeed for you! I'll continue to buy this for my pregnant friends.

What changes would you make to this product?

Perhaps having the option of 'one shot' small dose sachets could be useful? So you don't need to take the tube out in your handbag. Otherwise I am not sure how this could be improved at all. Perhaps leaflets with information on how to apply it, how to avoid mastitis etc? The brand is a known expert so people would trust advice coming from them.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Although quite expensive the Lansinoh HPA lanolin is fantastic stuff that has results almost instantly. It doesn't need to be removed before feeding and I found it moisturised my little man's lips while feeding which helped with the blister he got when learning to feed. The tube is easy to throw into the changing bag to have when on the go too.

How did this product make your life easier?

The lanolin does not need to be removed before breastfeeding which means there is no messing around while baby is waiting to be fed and you can top up the lanolin when needed.

Would you choose this product to win?

Lansinoh HPA lanolin is a useful product for the early days when breastfeeding is being established. However, after the first few months I feel it's not as necessary and it is expensive to not need to use a lot.

What changes would you make to this product?

The only thing that I feel needs changing with Lansinoh HPA Lanolin is the price. It feels expensive compared to others especially when it may not be used for very long. There is nothing else I would change about this product as it is easy to use and provides instant relief to sore and fracked nipples.

Tested by mum Kate Daniel for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This cream really is a life saver in the early days of having a new born I cannot reccomend it highly enough. I was given a small sachet of this from the midwife on the maternity unit and I haven't looked back since. It provided me with immense relief in the early days of breastfeeding and saved my nipples from being extremely sore.

How did this product make your life easier?

This cream saved my breasts and nipples! Without it I don't know how long I would have breastfed for. I used it on day 2 after giving birth and have not looked back since. I used th cream after every feed and it helped to keep my breasts soft and pain free. I noticed a difference after the first application!

Would you choose this product to win?

It really did make my life easier in those first few weeks of being a new mum. It provided me with pain relief and was a handy product to have in my bag out and about. It was also great as could leave on whilst breastfeeding so able to apply throughout the day! I also used it on my babies nappy rash and my dry lips!

What changes would you make to this product?

The only thing I would change about this product is the price, it is quite pricey however for a small tube it does last a long time. And it is the only product in the market that does such a good job on sore cracked nipples. The thickness of cream can also make it slightly difficult to apply quickly.

Tested by mum Gemma Panwar for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The cream/ointment is really easy to use and you only need a little bit as it goes along way. The tube was easy to carry around with me in my changing bag and to put on when needed when out. The cream needed warming up a little bit before putting on as it was very thick so by warming the tube it eas easier to apply.

How did this product make your life easier?

It helps with sore nipples and repairing any damage that is done. It is better then other creams as you don't have to wash it off before you feed the baby which meant it was very easy for me to use and fed when out as I didn't have to worry about wiping it before I fed my baby. I know a lot of mums that used this cream to help at the early stages of breastfeeding.

Would you choose this product to win?

It is pure and so you dont have to worry about taking it off before you feed your baby and so it makes feeding quicker and easier, especially during those early stages when you just want to concentrate on latching the baby on, not having to worry about wiping your cream off! I also found it very handy to use as the tube was easy to squeeze with one hand.

What changes would you make to this product?

The cream is very thick and so can be hard to apply straight from the tube; it is easier to apply once it is warmed between your fingers, but I don't think could actually be changed at all because it is just the product. I do think there needs to be a warning on the back saying not to leave it near something hot, I accidentally left it near a radiator and when I opened it the cream just poured out and I wasted a lot of expensive cream!

Tested by mum Charlotte Xanthidis for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This is a MUST HAVE product for all breastfeeding mums. Those early weeks are really tough going on your nipples and this cream helps soothe the pain and heal the cracked sore skin. It's great to be able to use it frequently and not need to remove it before feeds - especially helpful during the mammoth cluster feeding sessions! Without this cream I'm sure j would have given up breastfeeding!

How did this product make your life easier?

You can use it as often as you like and don't need to remove it before feeds which makes life much easier. It's helps you heal and allows you to keep breastfeeding even when your nipples are very sore. It also acts as a great lubricant when using nipple shields to reduce friction and make feeding even more comfortable.

Would you choose this product to win?

It comes in a handy size tube and you never need more than one tube so offers great value for money. It is very easy to apply despite its thickness which means not running into sore skin required! Every mum I know recommends this brand and I have never known anyone buy or use anything different! It also makes a great lip balm or cream for very dry areas of skin!

What changes would you make to this product?

The packaging is quite bland and has barely changed in the last 5 years. Whilst the colour and packaging are instantly recognisable, modernising it a bit would be good.
