At a glance:

With a bold design that you wouldn’t mind having out in your kitchen, the Nuna Zaaz is a sturdy option that won’t move for even the wriggliest toddler. The tray is not moveable which is annoying if you’re baby-led weaning, as you cannot stop your tot dropping food onto the floor.

What they say:

“Join the table & enjoy. Big eater. Messy eater. Playful eater. It’s all good with ZAAZ at the table. The moment they’re ready, you can be ready for them. ZAAZ is more compact than most high chairs, so it’s easier to slide right up to the table. And since food is to kids what paint was to Picasso, we’ve made sure it’s super easy to clean. Wipe ZAAZ down or just remove the parts and pop them in the dishwasher. Less clean-up time, more time to play.”

Tested by mum Jennifer Abrahams for the Mother & Baby Awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would, as it is really compact and functional. It’s super comfortable, and my little girl loves sitting in it to eat and play. It’s easy to assemble and doesn’t take up loads of room in my kitchen. It’s great to transport too, and means I can take it anywhere, even to my mum’s house! I love the fact that you can easily move it. It’s very stable and solid, and I don’t worry that it will tip if she starts bouncing around!

How did the product make your life easier?

I love the fact that it is so easy to keep clean! It wipes clean and there are no crevices and corners for food to get stuck in. It’s super quick to wipe down and clear up, and there’s no tray that can pinch fingers when being slid. The straps are comfortable, and best of all, don’t get all twisted like other chairs I’ve used. I hate the padded plastic inserts that some chairs have. Also, no garish colours! I love that.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would definitely choose this chair. It is neat, tidy and compact, and is aesthetically pleasing. Its profile fits well in any environment, and I like the fact that it subtly blends into the setting. I love my kids, but don’t want all the things that come with having children to clutter up my house. This product is extremely functional, easy to keep clean, and simple to move around, and it looks good too! Other chairs fold up but still take up space or need to be propped up against a wall, whereas this one doesn’t it take up any more room than a dining chair. I love it. Oh, and the legs don’t dig into my carpet or scratch my wooden floors!

What changes would you make to the product?

The only thing I would change would be to put a handle or hand hold on the back of the seat to facilitate moving it with one arm. It really doesn’t move easily with one hand without dragging it, and there isn’t anywhere to hold the chair to pull it with just one hand, so a handle on the back of the chair would be of great use.

Tested by mum Lucy Adler for the Mother & Baby Awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes and no. I love the design and think it is an exceptionally well made chair, but I have a small seven-month old and as a highchair, it is annoying (we are mainly doing baby led weaning). I found the highchair quickly became unhygienic - it took me four to five days to work out how to take it fully apart to clean it but unfortunately, I never found I could keep it clean, and spent almost as much time picking food out of the ground gap (which is hard work as you have to take the tray and support off and still can't get it clean!) This made it impractical for us, as I spent as long cleaning it as my son did eating off of it. I feel this would be a good follow on highchair for older children, but not for little ones.

How did this product make your life easier?

I really wanted to love this highchair. When it arrived I loved the design, and the fact it can so easily be put up and down was really good, as it so easily fitted into our life (under the table or bar stool). It is lightweight and easy to move, however, for us it had a couple of design flaws that I really struggled with. I loved the look of the highchair until I put my seven-month old in, which is when you realise there is a massive gap between them and the tray which cannot be made smaller, as the tray is a fixed distance from the back. This caused us problems from the get go as my son would pick up his food and then drop it down the gap, and couldn't then work out how to pick it up, meaning a lot of food ended up on the floor. As much as I tried to get round this I couldn't, and though I think it will be fab when he is bigger, it isn't very practical.

Would you choose this product to win?

No. For the price I would be happy with the quality, but I really found it annoying to use for every meal, as it needed taking apart to clean after every use (which took ages). This isn't practical as a busy mum, and the food soon mounted up down the gap, which I worried would eventually go moldy as, try as I might, I just couldn't easily clean it.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would make the tray moveable so that it could be brought closer to smaller children to ensure that when they are learning their motor skills, all of their food doesn’t end up on the floor.

Tested my mum Kathryn Hadfield for the Mother & Baby Awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product for its excellent quality. It feels really well made and sturdy, and seems easy enough to clean, but I would be concerned it may get dirty around the softer seat insert area over time. The design looks simple, modern and clean, and would look great in most kitchens.

How did this product make your life easier?

It’s really easy to clean. The removable tray fits into my sink and this makes it much easier to clean. The highchair is really sturdy which is great, as my daughter likes to climb and can often tip things up if they aren't sturdy enough. I am happy she is comfortable and safe whilst I sort the kitchen out around her.

Would you choose this product to win?

I wouldn't choose this over others as I don't think I would use all the features it offers (turning into a chair) and therefore wouldn't be able to justify the higher price. The sleek design is a plus point though. I did find it quite heavy to move around, and some people may struggle, but this ultimately adds to its sturdiness, I think.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would make a simpler harness to fasten, with fewer components. I would also consider having a better harness webbing material that wouldn't get as grubby and could be cleaned a bit easier. It would be good to have an obvious place to lift the highchair with (e.g. a hand hold or handle area) to help with lifting and moving around.

Tested by mum Jeanette Bell for the Mother & Baby Awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

It looks incredibly funky - it's certainly not your bog standard highchair. Seeing as highchairs are pretty much a permanent feature in my kitchen, it was so nice that it looked good as well as being easy to use. It was a relief to know that I could spray the chair with antibacterial spray all over and really make sure it was clean before and after each use. There was no faffing taking fabrics off the seat unit and re-threading the harness straps.

How did this product make your life easier?

This highchair is so easy to wipe down! It doesn't matter what gets spilled on it, as it clears up in the space of a few seconds with a cloth or a baby wipe. I was concerned at first that the seat cushion would not be spongy enough, but it is actually very deep foam, and our baby and toddler both sat comfortably on it. I found the chair light enough to move from room to room, depending upon where we wanted to use it.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think the design would make me choose this above all others. It's quirky looking, and has that glam feel about it, even when it stood in my country kitchen! It's so incredibly easy to use and as parents and grandparents, the last thing we need in our lives is extra stress and mess at meal times! Several friends have commented on the chair as they walked past it in my kitchen. It's great how it can convert to a normal chair too, and that it hasn't outlived its use once your child has outgrown using a highchair.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would change the fact that you cannot fold the chair. Even though the top 'seat' comes off the legs and the tray can be removed, it still makes for a pretty solid and chunky piece of furniture when not in use. We took to removing a chair from our kitchen in order to store the highchair, where we would usually fold our regular highchair up and tuck it behind the door. I would also cover the harness in some sort of wipeable material, as it was white and tended to get foodstuff on it and mark easily.

Tested by mum Chantelle Wilkinson for the Mother & Baby Awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this highchair to a friend once they have a toddler, as I think you could get better alternatives for smaller children that lay down! I also think there is quite a gap from the child to the tray, so for younger children just learning to eat, they will be spilling food before they get it to their mouths.

How did this product make your life easier?

It made my life easier as when we sat down as a family to eat our meals, my little boy could also sit at the table with us! He loves sitting at the table, but I often have to hold on to him so he doesn't fall off the chair whist trying to reach the table! With this chair he was able to sit at the table without a struggle of reaching, or me worrying about him falling.

Would you choose this product to win?

I don't know what other products are in this category, but I do believe there are better options in the market, I think, especially for younger children. I also think that for younger children it's better to have one that slightly tilts back, as they can fall asleep anywhere.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change anything, I allow the chair to fold. I also think that, for the price, it should do more than it does! For example, a lot of highchairs now lay down, which I think as a mum makes life much easier for when little ones drop to sleep at feeding time, rather than waking them getting them out the chair!

Tested by mum Ashleigh Kirkpatrick for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This highchair was fab. It looked sleek and expensive and was very easy to use. It was simple to adjust the height and very easy to keep clean - no little crevices for crumbs to hide! I loved that the chair would do a child up to age three ish and I do think it was substantial enough to last that long. My daughter loved sitting in it.

How did this product make your life easier?

I loved that my daughter could be pulled right up to the table and really feel like a part of the family when we were eating. The chair could be cleaned quickly and easily. It felt very sturdy and was easy to adjust the height as necessary. It was very comfortable so my daughter was happy to sit in it for a while while I prepared dinner which was a godsend!

Would you choose this product to win?

I would say that this is a great highchair but maybe not suitable for everyone. While the chair felt very expensive and substantial I don't think I would be prepared to pay the high retail price for a highchair. Also, I prefer my highchairs to fold to save room. In saying that, it was a great chair that looked very good sitting out in my kitchen!

What changes would you make to this product?

I think this highchair could be greatly improved if it had the capacity to be folded for storage. I have a relatively small kitchen and didn't really have the room for a highchair to be sitting out all the time.

Tested by mum Heather Dobbin for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

This highchair looks great, very modern and stylish. The red colour of the one we tested was lovely. It is very cushioned so was comfortable for my wee one and it is a good design in terms of few crevices for crumbs etc. to get into. It is easily wiped down and seems easy to adjust for older children.

How did this product make your life easier?

It is cushioned and seemed to be a good height for my toddler to be sitting up at the table with us. It is easily wiped down and again, has few crevices that crumbs can get in to so I didn't have to disassemble it for cleaning. The harness is nice and sturdy and can also be adjusted for older children.

Would you choose this product to win?

I think this is a good product and the design of it is good in terms of less cleaning but it is just a highchair! It seems very expensive for what it is and would you really use the same chair for so long?!

What changes would you make to this product?

The baby tray is quite restrictive - you would definitely want to try it before buying. It doesn't fold away which can be annoying if you want extra space for visitors etc. and it is quite bulky although it says it is a neat, contemporary design. It doesn't have a tray underneath which can be handy for wipes etc.

Tested by mum Lynne Currie for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this chair. I loved the design of it, it looked great and is very modern. It fitted in nicely with my modern kitchen. It was easy to use, easy to adjust. it had a nice big tray for my son's plate to fit on. It felt really sturdy and secure, felt really good quality. All surfaces were wipe clean and there aren't too many nooks and crannies to get into to clean it.

How did this product make your life easier?

It makes my life easier because it is easy to clean. You don't have to spend ages getting into lots of corners trying to get crumbs and mushed up banana out. There is no cloth seat so you don't have to detach anything and put it in the washing machine. The seat could just be wiped down with a cloth which made life easier.

Would you choose this product to win?

I loved the design of it. It is very modern and cool. It is very sturdy so I know as my son gets older and starts to move around more he will be safe. It was easy to clean swell...all surfaces were easily wiped clean so great for hygiene purposes.

What changes would you make to this product?

It would probably be the price. I think it's maybe a bit too expensive, that would put me off buying it. It will no doubt last a couple of years and still be in great condition because it is so sturdy though.

Tested by mum Helen Robinson for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would definitely recommend this highchair to any growing family as is has been used for both my children (1 and 4) and also my nephew who is 2. It is really easy to change the highchair to different stages. I love being able to adjust the height as it makes family meal times so much easier now my son can sit right up to the table.

How did this product make your life easier?

My son happily sits in the highchair, he can sit right up to the dining table once the highchair tray was removed. Lovely big tray for independent feeding, really easy to clean. We have also used the chair for my 4-year-old during family meal time and it is lovely and steady for her to use too, once the tray and safety bar were removed she was thrilled that she could sit higher up and join in.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would definitely choose the Nuna Zaaz highchair over others I have seen which are similar, the others I have seen are mainly wooden and I prefer the plastic as it is really easy to clean. I love being able to chance the stages to suit both my children, my eldest loves being able to sit higher up at the table to colour and play on the table. So much so that I am considering buying a second Zaaz for my growing family.

What changes would you make to this product?

There are 2 things I feel could be improved, firstly is the firm seat material, I feel this could be softer for babies, although it seems really hard wearing as it is. Secondly is the shoulder straps, perhaps a little short? Could do with being able to adjust them to a higher position. My tall one year old can't sit comfortably with the shoulder straps on as they seem to sit awkwardly on him, however he is happy to be strapped in round the middle.

Tested by mum Katherine Baines for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The Nuna Zaaz highchair is a lovely design with a nice sponge seat which is comfortable for my child, which can also change into seat in order to sit at the table during meal times. Although I like the design, I don't think I would recommend it as for the price I think there are similar alternatives out on the market for cheaper.

How did this product make your life easier?

This product has made my life easier as I often put my child in the chair with some of her food then I can get on with other jobs in the kitchen like cooking and cleaning knowing that she is safe and comfortable due to the excellent design, it is also easy to clean which is also helpful especially when my child is eating something particularly messy.

What changes would you make to this product?

Apart from the price I wouldn't really change much about this product as it has fulfilled most, if not all of the criteria I would look for in a highchair.

Tested by mum Emmah Yeaman for the M&B Awards 2017:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this product to mums who have babies around the age of 10 months plus, I feel the isn't soft enough for younger babies who may need additional support. The product is really easy to use and clean, easy to adjust heights and remove tray and safety bar. Great for when babies want to feed themselves as the tray is a good size.

How did this product make your life easier?

The product makes my life easier as it is easy to clean, strap baby in and adjust. It makes meal times easier as I can pull the chair up to the table as part of family meal time or as a stand alone chair with the tray. It is really easy to change the height and remove the tray and safety bar. The seat material seems really good quality and can be removed for cleaning.

Would you choose this product to win?

Although this product is quite expensive it is of a high quality that will last with the children as they grow and will be great for any further additions. I would choose this product over similar on the market due to the high quality, ease of use and ease of clean. I can see this highchair lasting a long time, which I can't see with some of the wooden alternatives.

What changes would you make to this product?

It would be nice to have a wider range of colours available in this type of highchair. The possibility of the addition of a support cushion would be great for younger babies, I feel this would be a great benefit for babies who are just starting out in the high chair as the seat is quite big for smaller children.

A sleek and modern highchair that’s ridiculously simple to keep clean - all removable parts can be popped in the dishwasher - and is suitable for children from six months to adults. Its versatile too as it can be used with or without the tray, and the seat height is easily adjusted to allow toddlers and older children to sit up at the table in comfort.

As well as the tray, you can also remove the footrest and arm bar and the seat and back are made from luxuriously soft foam with no creases to trap food. It’s full of great details, for example the five-point harness converts to a less restrictive three-point version for when your child gets older.

The Zaaz is really quick and easy to assemble and it doesn’t take up much space either, as it has a small footprint (the area of space it takes up on the floor), but can be a bit of a squeeze to get larger toddlers in and out as a result. It’s a shame it doesn't recline though.

It also converts to an adult chair later on, making this good value for money, as an investment piece.

All in all, it’s a solid, reliable product that is easy to keep clean but lacks the flexibility of other highchairs.
