At a glance:

Lansinoh’s HPA Lanolin has been developed for breastfeeding mothers to soothe and protect sore and cracked nipples. Sore nipples are very common during breastfeeding and can often be a result of the uncomfortable positioning of your baby at the breast. Whilst it is vital to address the root cause, Lansinoh’s HPA Lanolin is proven to help soothe and protect.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Keri: I would recommend this product. However, sometimes it was hit and miss for me. Some days it seemed to provide relief or make my nipples feel more comfortable but other days I found it didn’t make much difference.

Claire: The product is safe to use before feeding baby without washing it off first. It is also fragrance-free. This means that you can use it as a preventative cream applied before the feed and also as a cure after you have fed. If I had to ensure that all the cream was removed before feeding my baby then this may have deterred me from using it as I would have worried about my baby ingesting things they should not be having.

Rebecca: The product comes in a small tube which is great for throwing into your baby bag or handbag when you are out and about. The product itself is really thick so can take a bit of work to get out of the tube (I found rubbing the gel first made it easier to apply). You need very little (a pea size amount will do for most applications) meaning it is value for money. Don't be put off when you initially see the price tag attached to such a small tube. The cap on the product is wipe-clean and because the gel is thick, it won't leak over your bag.

How did this product make your life easier?

Caroline: Anyone who says breastfeeding is easy, is lying. However, Lansinoh makes the process a lot easier. Your nipples are sore from the first few feeds and Lanolin provides much-needed relief by creating a barrier and helping them heal. It's easy to apply and the lid is well thought out as a loose lid would go missing. The click top lid is easy to use one-handed. It is perfect as it is safe to breastfeed whilst it is still on. It is a must-have when you start breastfeeding. It is useful for a variety of other uses such as for cuts, nappy rash or as a lip balm.

Ashleigh: I would highly recommend this product. It is easy to use and feels like it helps straight away. The tube lasts forever which makes me feel like it is great value for money. It is a must-have for any mum planning to breastfeed to have in her hospital bag. I could use it on my dried skin and didn’t have to worry about finding other creams as I am short on time. I loved that you didn’t have to remove it before breastfeeding. The tube is small enough that it fits nicely into the nappy bag but not too small that you feel the price isn't justified.

Amie: I cannot express how much this product made my breastfeeding experience so much easier. Before using this product, my nipples were sore, blistered and bleeding. Within a day of using the product, my nipples were soothed and it made it so much more comfortable for me to breastfeed. I could apply the Lanolin at any time and not worry about letting it dry before feeding which was amazing. It was easy to get out the bottle and I applied it all the time.

Would you choose this product to win?

Jasmine: This product comes so highly recommended. It was my first choice upon choosing a nipple cream. I think it should win as it has really helped with nipple soreness. I am now eight weeks into breastfeeding and have no problems with feeding or nipple pain. I still use the Lanolin cream to keep moisturised and prevent any future chapping.

Sarah-Jane: It works. It is one of the only nipple creams that doesn't require washing off making it incredibly easy to use and completely worry-free in terms of baby consumption. It soothed my nipples. I have continued to use it as my baby has got older. My baby's latch has changed meaning that my nipples have had to adapt and at times it has been painful after those initial few weeks.

Keri: Yes, I would choose this over other products. It has been recommended by many friends and seems to work for a lot of women. This product has an excellent reputation and for this reason, I would choose it over other brands. It is readily available in stores which is very convenient.

What changes would you make to this product?

Claire: The product is very expensive and I feel this may put some women off buying it. However, its use as a preventative measure is really important. It is a shame that the price may deter people from using it. However, a very small amount goes a very long way. Perhaps a smaller tube with a lower price tag so women can test it first before committing to a larger tube may be beneficial.

Rebecca: This product is great and I honestly had to think quite hard about any element that I would change. The only minor issue is that because the product is so thick it can take quite a lot of effort to squeeze the gel out of the tube, especially when trying to do it one-handed! If there was a way to improve the usability of the product whilst keeping its ability to stay where applied then that would just be the icing on the cake!

Caroline: I believe the product is perfect - clear easy lanolin that is 100% natural. The tube is great. I can open it with one hand, put the product on a finger on my other hand and then close it with one hand. The colour is quite unique as there aren't many purple products around. The main thing is that they can feed whilst it is still on your nipples. It is simply perfect.
