Mother & Baby 2018 Shortlist

At a glance:

This stylish looking pushchair comes with a handy three positioned, UV protected hood, which our mum testers absolutely loved. Despite being affordable and lightweight, when reclined, it’s difficult to access the shopping basket.

What they say:

“Meet the Billie Faiers My Babiie MB51 Grey Stars stroller - ultra-loaded with exceptional handling, these lightweight aluminium buggies that are super manoeuvrable. Fully equipped with lockable and swivelling single front wheels and a handy shopping basket, the MB51 stroller is ideal for any trip out with your little one from birth (with its full recline). In case we hadn't put enough features on it there is the luxury padded adjustable leg rest.

The My Babiie MB51 range of strollers also come with an extendable 3 position hood to keep your baby shaded from the sun and elements, however you can maintain a visual on your precious cargo with handy viewing window on the back of the hood. MB51 has doubled up sun protection with added UPF50+ (UV Protection) in the hood. Free handy cup holder and rain cover as well as Free apron footmuff so that if you are strolling in the sunshine or braving the wet weather you have a trendsetting and versatile superstar to push.”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I think the grey and white chevron is very stylish and I love the fact it isn’t the stereotypical blue or pink! This is a really handy design for future children. That said, the hood is the main reason I would recommend this stroller as the UV protection is amazing. I also like how comfy it feels and how padded it is. Finally, the colour co-ordinated handles and the emblem on the hood is discreet and stylish.

How has this product made your life easier?

The push chair is very easy to unfold and get out of the boot – no faffing! The rain cover is very easily attached.  The UV protection on the hood makes me feel confident when taking my baby out and about – if we have any unexpected sunshine and I’ve forgotten her hat and sun cream, I still feel confident that my baby was still protected. This is what really sells the stroller to me – if it is windy it will also protect my baby from an icy cold blast, along with the foot muff.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would choose this product above all others mainly because of the UV protection in the three-positioned hood. It removes the hassle of clip-on umbrellas and protects your baby from the elements. I also like that you can see the baby through the window on the hood. I also think it’s great that the pushchair comes with an attachable foot muff and the fact that it reclines is brilliant, as my baby fell asleep very easily in it. All in all, a great buy!

What changes would you make to this product?

The only thing I would change about this pushchair is the light grey and white design, as it didn’t take long for it to look a little grubby.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes! I would recommend this to friends and other parents – the buggy was lovely to use and has a great unisex design. The material used is nice and soft and easy to wipe clean. It folds down and opens up very easily and is nice and compact when in the boot leaving me with lots of extra space. I thought the cup holder was a great idea, having this extra feature meant my child's water bottle was easily accessible. I also liked the use of magnets for the pocket and hood cover, personally I felt this was nicer than using Velcro, which is normal for a lot of buggies. For me this meant I could safely keep my child's dummy and comforter or my phone and keys close by in case they were needed.

How has this product made your life easier?

I really liked this buggy, it is lightweight, compact and was very easy to manoeuvre wherever we used it. It folds up nice and small which meant I could fit the buggy, other items and a whole weeks’ food shopping in the boot at the same time, which isn't possible with the buggy we currently have. To top it off my child thought it was great and happily sat and slept in it whilst we were out and about, which is not normal for us as it can be a battle of wills for her to use our current buggy. To me that fact that myself, my husband, our child and other family members all enjoyed using this buggy says a lot!

Would you choose this product to win?

Yes, I would choose this buggy to win a Mother & Baby award. After having the chance to test this buggy I would definitely purchase one if baby number two was to come along. I felt it was very lightweight and extremely easy to use. It has been designed well with ease, comfort and style in mind. I thought the extra features such as a cup holder, magnetic closing pocket, removable hood, lap bar and extending handles made this buggy enjoyable to use.

What changes would you make to this product?

I personally do not feel anything needs to be changed with this buggy, however as I have to give an answer the only thing I can think of is making the basket underneath slightly bigger.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend this pushchair to my fellow mummies, mainly because of the practical design. The large hood was great at keeping the sun out of my little one’s eyes. The colour scheme is beautiful and very fashion – forward, I felt very comfortable to be pushing it around in public. It had an umbrella fold which made it very easy to open and close in a rush, although it did not completely fold down which made it difficult to store at home as it kept opening up. It was very light weight to push, making it very easy to turn and push up hills.

How has this product made your life easier?

The stroller has an umbrella style fold, which makes it very easy to get up and down when you’re in a rush. Being a mum of two, getting in and out of the house as easy and quickly as possible is a must, and this pushchair definitely helps with this. The cup holder is brilliant and makes it easier to pass drinks to my tots. The recline feature was also very quick and easy to use – I was able to recline the seat to a flat position with ease and without disturbing my baby.

Would you choose this product to win?

Personally, I feel that this product shouldn’t win a Mother & Baby award – although it does have some good features, the negatives do outweigh the positives in my opinion. It was lightweight, which is great for mum when pushing, but it almost felt a bit unstable and I didn’t feel my daughter was one hundred percent safe. When pushing the stroller down the street, I felt every bump and crack on the road making the journey very bumpy for my daughter. I also do not feel it is suitable for newborn babies, because I feel they would not be comfortable or completely secure in it. Finally, the shopping basket or lack of shopping basket is a very big negative for me – it was not easy to access when in the recline position and this is really important to me.

What changes would you make to this product?

The main change I would make to the pushchair is the basket size as I found the basket too small. When the pushchair was in the reclined feature it was very difficult to get items in and out of the basket without disturbing your sleeping baby.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

The pushchair is very easy to use and is ideal for travelling – it’s lightweight and user friendly. The hood folds all the way out to protect your little one from the sun and the colours are appealing, however I did find the pram to be quite cheap looking and the wheels could have been better quality. The cup holder was very useful and the harness was easy to use and my one-year-old was very happy in the pram and looked very comfortable. The recline was easy to use with one hand, the rain cover was very easy to put on and take off and pushing the pram was enjoyable. That said, I felt the build of the pram felt quite weak and cheap and I'm not sure how long it would actually last in comparison to more expensive brands.

How has this product made your life easier?

The pram was very light and very easy to use and the hood is fantastic and means I don't have to use a separate sun umbrella. The hood is definitely the main selling point, as it can be used as protection from wind and rain, which is brilliant when your baby is napping and you're rushing to get the rain cover out. Also, folding the pushchair up was very easy which was perfect when I was in a rush.

Would you choose this product to win?

I personally wouldn't choose this pram over others as I felt it wasn't built very well – the whole pram felt very plasticy. I would definitely use it for travelling abroad or as a back-up pram, but I didn't feel it was sturdy enough to last until my daughter was older. I feel there are better prams on the market which cost roughly the same.

What changes would you make to this product?

The wheels – I think they look cheap and are uncomfortable for my baby, as they don’t give her a very smooth ride.

Tested by mum Natalie Goode for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I actually would recommend this to a friend, although I'm not sure it would work for a newborn – my son is eight-months-old and had quite a lot of space in it, so a tiny baby would be lost in it! The design is quite nice, although a little bold for me with the chevron material. The hood is probably one of the best I've seen; it extends to really cover the baby from the sun, but also folds back without the hood bagging or having to zip up to make it look neater. It has a little pocket to stick your phone or purse in whilst out and about too which is handy.

How has this product made your life easier?

At first sight, I thought that this pushchair wasn't for me, but after using it for a few days I actually quite liked it. After getting the hang of putting it up and down, I found it very quick and easy to do so. It folds in one and is handy for a quick trip out with your little one.

Would you choose this product to win?

I probably wouldn't go for this pushchair myself, purely for the reason I have a dog to walk and isn't so great off the pavement. It doesn't seem to have any suspension so is pretty rigid and is not the easiest to manoeuver on uneven ground. The design is also pretty bold for my liking. That said, if I was a mum living in town and didn't have dogs it would definitely be one to consider. It also wouldn't suit a mum with a small boot, as it's quite long when folded.

What changes would you make to this product?

The design is the first thing I'd change about this pushchair – it would be good if it had some suspension and was a little lighter to pick up. I think the seat could be made a bit cosier too and the handles are a bit uncomfortable to hold.
