Mothercare Amble

At a glance:

This affordable pushchair is a great option if you’re looking for a lightweight pushchair. Our panel of mum testers loved the little extras, such as the rain cover pocket, but wished the basket was more accessible and the handles were adjustable, as it wasn’t the easiest for their partners to push.

What they say:

“Designed for city living with a compact frame, the amble stroller has a spacious padded seat suitable for newborns. Practical with thoughtful features, the amble can be converted to a travel system with adaptors and an infant car seat (both sold separately).”

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Yes, I would definitely recommend this pushchair to other mums as it was super lightweight and easy to transport. I loved the fact it had padded seats, which were really comfortable for my daughter and the hood was made from lightweight, breathable material. I’m quite a tall mum and found the handle length a good size. The wheels are also still a good size and it was easy to push on rough terrain compared to other strollers I have used in the past.

How has this product made your life easier?

I love this pushchair! It’s designed with mum in mind and a lot of thought has gone in to the storage and ease of use. I love that there is a compartment for the rain cover – this saves space in the basket, which is also a decent size. The pushchair folds in half and is lightweight and compact. I also like that the seat is on the inside when it folds, which keeps it clean and dry.

Would you choose this product to win?

I do think this should win a Mother & Baby award – if I didn’t already have a pushchair, I would buy this one. The little extras like the rain cover storage and the padded seats really make this product stand out from the others in this category.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could improve one thing it would be the breaks, as I felt they were a little flimsy.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend the Mothercare Amble if you are looking for a cheaper pram, as for the price you do get a lot. The basket is an OK size – enough for a few bits when you are on the go. The pram is also quite roomy, so my 21-month-old had plenty of space. It also folds down and stands freely which is great.

How has this product made your life easier?

The Mothercare Amble is compact and easy to push, plus it folds down and goes back up easily which is a big plus. The pram has a handy pocket to keep the rain cover in which is a really great idea, as I often forget to pack it. It’s a lovely looking pram, and the hood is large, which is good for sunny days.

Would you choose this product to win?

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t choose the Mothercare Amble to win a Mother & Baby award. Although it is affordable, it just wasn’t for me. My toddler loves to sit up and watch the world go by and she wasn’t able to in this pram as the chair was slightly reclined. She didn’t seem comfortable at all, and for that reason, I wouldn’t vote for it to win in this category.

What changes would you make to this product?

If I could change one thing about the Mothercare Amble, it would be its adjustability – the handle couldn’t be adjusted, the straps were very fiddly and I couldn’t move the seat to allow my little girl to sit more upright.

Tested by mum Sarah Myerscough for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend the Mothercare Amble, as I thought it was a really good pushchair for the price. It is lightweight and easy to put up and down. It also has a really good zipped pocket for the rain cover, which is great as it saves room in the basket and allows you to find it quickly when the weather changes.

How has this product made your life easier?

The Mothercare Amble is a great pushchair for babies aged 6-36-months-old, and the adaptors that are available to use with Maxi Cosi car seats make it a really versatile pushchair that can be used from birth. I found it really easy to fold down, and loved the handle that allows you to carry the pushchair easily when folded.

Would you choose this product to win?

The Mothercare Amble is great value for money – it’s a lightweight pushchair that is easy to transport, and I love the choice of three different colours. I liked the way the seat reclined fully, so my little girl could lie down, but it didn’t seem to sit fully upright and I found she was leaning forward to try and look around. Ideally, I would like the chair to be in a more upright position. The hood was really sturdy compared to other products I have tried and looks really nice when it is fully extended.

What changes would you make to this product?

I am 5 ft 8 and found I was bending over when pushing the Mothercare Amble, so it would be better if the handle bar could be extendable – I really think anyone taller than myself would struggle to push this for any length of time. Also, the basket is quite roomy, but the opening is very small and I couldn’t fit my changing bag into it.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

Not only does the Amble pushchair look great, it is easy to push and manoeuvre. It folds well and is compact when folded, as well as being lightweight and easy to transport. The seat seemed comfortable and there was plenty of room for my almost two-year-old daughter. It has a fairly decent sized shopping basket, although it is not the easiest to access. The pushchair can also be used from birth with the car seat adaptors, which is a great feature, although it can only be used in a forward-facing position, which is not ideal for some mums.

How has this product made your life easier?

The Amble pushchair makes my life easier as it is easy to fold and is super compact and easy to transport when folded. It is also freestanding when folded, which is great when storing the pushchair. It has a good-sized hood and a handy pocket to keep the rain cover in. It can also be steered with one hand which I love!

Would you choose this product to win?

The Amble pushchair looks great, and my 22-month-old daughter seemed comfortable when sat in it. The fact it is so compact and lightweight makes it a really useful little pushchair, and I love the fact it can be manoeuvred with one hand. Personally, I would not choose it to win as I wouldn’t want my baby to be in a forward-facing position in the early days, so for me, this would not work as my main pushchair, and I feel it is too expensive to buy as a second pushchair when my daughter is old enough to sit forward facing.

What changes would you make to this product?

The Amble pushchair has a decent sized shopping basket which was great, but even though I could fit a fair bit in, it was not particularly accessible which was a shame. It is also not possible to adjust the height of the handle, meaning my husband found it slightly uncomfortable to push.

Tested by mum Aime Knight for the Mother & Baby awards 2018:

Would you recommend this to other mums?

I would recommend the Mothercare Amble to friends and fellow mums because it is easy to put up and collapse. I love the fact it folds in half flat, which means it doesn’t take up too much space in my car boot when out and about. I also love the design of the amble – the material used looks lovely and comfy for my little one.

How has this product made your life easier?

The Mothercare Amble made my life easier as it was super easy to manoeuvre and was very simple to collapse, which is great when you have a fussy toddler in tow and are trying to get home in a rush. The Amble is a sturdy and stable stroller, whilst still feeling lightweight.

Would you choose this product to win?

I would definitely consider this over other strollers in this category, as it is great value for money and really high-quality. I especially liked the size of the basket underneath the seat, which was big enough to hold our picnic and baby changing bag. I also thought the rain cover pouch on the back of the seat was a great idea.

What changes would you make to this product?

I would change the mechanism to recline the seat back, as I found it took me a couple of attempts to get the seat the same on both sides.
